Holosiivskyi District Court of Kiev arrested by units of the State Security Service Ministry of Internal Affairs "Titan", who shot at the August 25 official vehicles of the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Ina Sovsun. This is stated in the press service of the prosecutor's office in Kiev.

"The court chose measure of restraint in the form of detention with the possibility of bail. The Prosecutor's Office intends to appeal this decision ", - the report says.

At the court session to elect a preventive measure only the public prosecutor demanded the arrest without bail.

At the moment, the prosecutor's office has prepared an appeal against this decision of the court.

Recall, the Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that the car of the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Ina Sovsun near the building of the Ministry of Education in Kiev, August 25 shooting drunk office staff of the State Service of the Interior Ministry "Titan". In Russian

This was said during a meeting in Brussels, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the head of EU diplomacy and Federica Mogherini, the press service of the Ukrainian leader.

Poroshenko and Mogherini also discussed the preparations for the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg on 4-5 September, which among other things will discuss assistance to Ukraine.

Poroshenko thanked for the uncompromising stance of the European Union in support of the Ukrainian Oleg and Alexander Kol'chenko Sentsova. In Russian
The European Union is satisfied with the reforms implementation in Ukraine and, taking the fact into account, it will transfer the last two installments of financial assistance to Ukraine.

The President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker told reporters after a meeting with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on Thursday in Brussels, the Ukrinform own correspondent in Belgium reports.
Aleksandr Borodai said in Moscow on August 27 that the Union of Donbas Volunteers aims to gain the same status and benefits for volunteers who fought in Ukraine as for veterans of military conflicts.

Borodai, a Russian citizen, said it is currently being registered by Russia’s Justice Ministry, adding that the organization will have offices in Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, and the Crimea Peninsula.

The former self-proclaimed prime minister of the self-declared Donetsk People's Republic did not specify how the organization would be financed.

Borodai estimated that up to 50,000 Russian volunteers fought in eastern Ukraine since fighting between government forces and separatists erupted in April 2014...............

Captive Ukrainian officer is alive, but terrorists are rigid with his exchange terms.

As reported by Censor.NET, this was announced by the volunteer and social activist Oleksii Mochanov on his Facebook page.

"Rakhman is absent in today's list. Ruban saw Andrii for a few minutes, our officer is alive and almost healthy. Separatists are rigid in terms of exchange: they are ready to exchange our major for their major Starkov, known as "Major Kamaz," who messed up check points and got captured by Ukrainian soldiers. He is now under prosecution and waiting to face the court.

No one is going to release him: we are not at war, and therefore, no special conditions are out there allowing POWs exchange. Therefore, I got a question to FB community: do you think it is possible to exchange our prisoners for those taken captive by us? Or do we have to give up slops and take every separatist to court? Given the attitude toward Ukrainian POWs is the same.

If answer will be many and grounded, perhaps authorities will react somehow. It's not even about Rakhman (one of the so-called "Cyborgs" from Donetsk airport - ed.) There are captive Ukrainian soldiers held by terrorists for more than a year. They are now waiting for society's decision.

The government that came to office via people's blood is obliged to listen to public opinion. It is also obliged to remember that our president's 54 percent of credence was not given free for nothing, but following quite exact populist promises: to end the war before the end of last June, to send to the front only contract pros decently paid and insured..." Mochanov wrote. In Russian
Judge of the Shevchenko district court of Kyiv Olena Pykhur has ruled to return $4.3 million to an illegal currency exchange chain, which the tax police seized during a search at Victoria company premises. The Court of Appeal overturned the decision as unfounded.

This is announced by the Censor.NET Chief Editor Yurii Butusov in his blog.

He says: "Aug. 5, the tax police seized a record in Ukraine's history amount of cash during a search at illegal currency exchange points run by Victoria company headed by Yurii Hudz.

$3.8 million, UAH 10.7 million (about $499,400), RUB 1.5 million (about $21,640), and documents, attesting to firm's illegal activity connected with currency exchange and tax evasion, were confiscated. Also, during the search, the following non-registered firearms without any possession, storage and use licenses were seized: two AKSU-74 machine guns, two Saiga short guns, a revolver.

The company's official annual (2012, 2013, 2014) cash flow makes 700-900,000 hryvnias (about $42,005)."

"According to company's off-the-book accounting, the seized amount is equal to its turnover for a few days. The tax police demanded to arrest the confiscated assets through a number of violations of the criminal code, as well as suspicion of deliberate concealing information about financial transactions, amounting to 150,000 hryvnias or over, and evasion of taxes, fees, amounting to 50 million hryvnias," Butusov stresses.

He writes: "However, the judge of the Shevchenko district court of Kyiv Olena Pykhur refused to arrest the seized money and weapons. Moreover, the money and weapons, despite all the obvious evidence and documents, had to be returned. But court's mail was too slow, somehow preventing the shameful decision from being executed. As a result, the tax police took time to appeal the decision. And today, Aug. 27, an ordinary miracle happened - the Kyiv City Court of Appeal overturned Pykhur's decision arresting the seized assets."

"It took Ukrainian justice three weeks to arrest confiscated illegal millions of dollars and weapons. Now, they will serve as evidence in a criminal case, which is to be legally investigated. Now it's a matter of principle," Butusov resumes. In Russian
Oleksandr Turchynov, the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, says the Ukrainian army is faced with the Russian regular troops in Donbas that have the structure of Germany's Waffen-SS units in the WWII in Ukraine, NSDC website reports Aug. 27.

"During the summer of 2015, the structure of the enemy troops has been changed. The enemy troops are no longer the formations of Russians and rebels.

The Russians formed two army corps. They are led by Russian officers, with their staff HQ in Novocherkassk, Russia. .

Rank-and-file members of the corps are 40% local rebels and 60% Russian contract servicemen and mercenaries.

Turchynov said Ukraine has the list of Russian officers serving in the corps. They will be prosecuted their role in the war against Ukraine, Turchynov said.

Russia has concentrated in Donbas a large number of armor, artillery, ammunition and fuel, sufficient for massive offensive operations in Ukraine, he said.
Short article.
It says Ukraine has inflation of 55%. But I haven't seen anything go up in price now for several months.
Gas prices at the pumps have come down a little in the past week.
Food prices are stable, or falling - fruit and veg are cheaper in the summer.
And if the hryvnia strengthens a little over the next few months then that also will help reduce inflation.
I would expect to see the inflation figure drop markedly during the next year.

I just looked at a few websites, one of which said that inflation is currently 55%. But it also predicted a drop below 20% by next spring.
The major price rises - gas, electricity, should work themselves through the system.
This was also on the tv news.
Wow - that really is something. No way on earth that would have happened with the old police.
50 km over the speed limit!! Said he was late for a meeting. Book 'em, Danno!

something wierd about the video link. But it does work.
This may be what I saw on the tv about 2 hours ago - news. But much longer version.
An exchange of about 20 soldiers. Captured in February.

Generally, from midnight to 18 hours opponent 54 times violated the ceasefire. Of these, 11 times the invaders used guns, 16 - grenade launchers.
And this is just in the Mariupol area. I read elsewhere that 5 soldiers died here yesterday.
Putin pressing for his corridor to Crimea. He is running out of time. And money.
Recruitment of Support Staff for the Election Observation Mission to Ukraine

30  August 2015 CET for administrative positions;

7 September 2015 CET for programmatic positions;

15 September 2015  CET for regional positions

The working language of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission is English.

Positions are open for citizens or permanent residents of Ukraine only.

OSCE - Election Monitoring vacancies and their descriptions
Group A - Paris, Real Madrid, Shakhtar and Malmo
Group G - Chelsea, Porto, Dynamo and Maccabi

So I might go to watch Dynamo v Chelsea in Kiev, if tickets are less than 5 dollars. Likely.
Possibility of seeing Real Madrid play in Lviv also against Shakhtar.

Not super draws, but not a "group of death" either.
Shakhtar Donetsk - Paris SG are fairly good. And Real, of course, among the top teams in the world.
For Dynamo Kiev - Chelsea are famous. But they've had a bad start to the English Premier League.
Porto and Maccabi - in a sense can blow hot or cold. Not the worst draw for Dynamo. 50-50 chance, I would say of getting through.
For Shakhtar, more difficult.. maybe 30% chance.
It will be interesting to see the odds for each of them progressing to the next round - need a top 2 finish, in a group of 4.

No fixtures published yet. I just checked the uefa website.

The abduction of citizens of Ukraine Nadezhda Savchenko and Oleg Sentsov by Russian intelligence agencies for trial in the territory of the Russian Federation is a blatant and cynical violation of international law norm.
Politics of cynicism. A lovely turn of phrase.
Russia is now being ridiculed throughout the world from Australia to Amsterdam, from Brussels to Berlin, from Washington to Warsaw.
Russia is the absolute pits of the world. Along with North Korea.

Бойовики Донбасу масово дезертирують
"For two months the number of gunmen has decreased by 3.5 thousand people. One reason for this - desertion.
During the summer of 2015 took the dramatic changes in the nature of Russia's participation in military operations in the Donbass.
Now the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not opposed by mixed groups of insurgents and soldiers, as before, but by structured divisions of the regular army of Russia, said Secretary of the National Security Council Alexander Turchinov.
"On the occupied territories of Donbass military leadership of Russia have completed the creation of a powerful land connection, which is based on two army corps, trained to conduct active offensive operations", - said the press service of Ukraine's National Security Council, released Thursday. According to the Ukrainian side, the management and maintenance of the 1st and 2nd Army Corps performed a specially created 12 command reserve the Southern District of the Armed Forces (the headquarters is located in Novocherkassk, Rostov region).
Basically the mercenaries are leaving. The Donbass has been stripped, and ransacked. And the full Russian military are moving in to replace then.
I expect it to simply say that it was hit by a ground to air missile.
You can see that simply by looking at this photo - external impact of small fragments.
A buk S to A missile explodes a few metres from its target. That's how it works.

They might go further and say by a Buk Russian missile.
But whatever, then the Russian propaganda machine will "find" a new video or Ukrainian soldier to explain - to the Shaun Walker "journalists" - that Ukraine fired the missile at its own planes.
Russia is a country in denial of everything.

Will the last person to leave please switch the lights out.
Plus and minus.
Ukraine's population has declined rapidly over the past few years.
And with a visa free regime with the EU I would expect millions to leave.
Who will be left to fight the war against Russia? Me?
Long, thorough article in wikipedia detailing some of the known Russian military intervention in Ukraine.
“It’s been a very difficult five months," said Jaresko, a Chicago native who was given Ukrainian citizenship when Poroshenko appointed her finance minister last December. "I’m confident that the markets will receive this quite well,” she said in an interview on Wednesday.
Also says - Russia rejects request to accept new terms on $3 billion bond.

Other financial news in our "Money and Finance" thread.
Interest rates now cut from 30 to 27%.

Ukraine's finance minister said a "win-win" deal for restructuring $18 billion of debt had been agreed with a group of its largest creditors.
The minister, Natalia Yaresko, said late on Wednesday in comments embargoed until Thursday that the deal involved a 20 percent writedown on the principal and met all targets set by an International Monetary Fund bailout program.

I read elsewhere that Russia said that it would NOT take part in the restructuring program. No surprise there.

On several tv channels, UBR, Kanal 5, Kanal one, Kanal 112.
Meeting with Juncker. Press conference.
"During the last day of hostilities, seven Ukrainian troops were killed, and another 13 injured."
According to Motuzyanyk, these losses sustained during force ATO Marinka and Mariupol direction.
ATU spokesman said that on Wednesday at Mariupol direction militants used against our positions multiple rocket launcher "Grad". The main blow was inflicted on the village Prokhorovka.
Moscow. August 26th. INTERFAX.RU - The self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republic this autumn may completely abandon the hryvnia in favor of the ruble, "Interfax" a source in the government's financial unit DNI.
Approve or disapprove of Putin - Down from 89 to 83%. Still a complete joke. 3rd chart.
Medvedev at 61%. Hardly moved over the years.
54% approve, and 44% disapprove of the government's activity. Wierd. Quite a split.

this is interesting. Is the country moving in the right direction?
55% said yes. 29% said no. 17% not sure. Some change over the past half year also.
Of course, all these figures are massaged, i am sure, but interesting that Putin's rating has not gone up even higher. After all, one assumes the North Korean leader has a 100% rating..

Since the Russian occupation of Crimea, Russian authorities have been quick to silence those who oppose their actions there – be they Crimean Tatars, pro-Ukraine activists, or Moscow-based independent advocates. But this latest case, and the terribly harsh sentences for Sentsov and Kolchenko, are the starkest warning yet to Russia’s critics in Crimea: keep quiet or else.
If you believe low oil prices killed the Soviet Union, it seems reasonable to wonder whether the current commodities bust will topple President Vladimir Putin or even break up Russia.
Cheap oil, however, didn't destroy the Soviet empire: Communism did. Putin's Russia is more oil-dependent than its predecessor, but it isn't bound by ideology or principle, and that may help the regime stay in power.

Rather pro-Putin, but some interesting facts. Like 32% of food was imported. That's a lot.
As Fairy Liquid becomes the latest product banned by Moscow in response to western sanctions, test your knowledge of the ever-expanding blacklist

The madness that is Putin's Russia. Not by Shaun Walker, I hasten to add. Nor by the Stalin butt-kissing editor of the Guardian, Seamus Milne, who wrote a famous article, now removed mysteriously from The Guardian website, attempting to deny that Stalin killed tens of millions, and saying it was only a few hundred or so.
Article available to read elsewhere.

Ukraine's foreign minister Pavlo Klimkin has called for a new set of personal sanctions to be drafted against Russian officials who are believed to have played a part in the detention of Ukrainian citizens such as director Oleg Sentsov and former military pilot Nadiya Savchenko.
"I hold that we must gradually move towards discussing a [sanctions] list for Sentsov and Savchenko," Klimkin told Ukrainian news channel Inter on Tuesday night. "Anyone in Russia who has any link to these unjust decisions should not feel safe. We will now be working on this," Klimkin added.

Now this is a real joke. This goes on at every base in the country.
If they arrested all the officials that did this, they would lose maybe half of the armed forces.
Mega-corruption from the top downwards.
You get much more pay for having combat status. So it pays to slip your boss 500 dollars in return for increased salary.
Another common trick I know many have done higher up in the ranks -
Go to the ATO zone for a couple of days, or a week, when it is quiet... And then you get combat status also.
The normal run-of-the-mill soldiers have to stay there for half a year or so.
But the bosses - a day or two. And they get their extra pay. Corruption corruption corruption. Ukraine's armed forces.
Of course, the volunteer batallions get none of this.
More ammunition, shells, missiles from Lavrov and Putin for Shaun Walker's "DNR guys".
Separs. 20 years hard labor, I suggest.
3 am. Kiev.
Not joking. I saw this branch at the weekend, Pr Popedi, and said to a friend something like, "somebody ought to blow that up". It looked so new and posh.
Wierd... Really wierd... I wish all my thoughts came true!
I am generally against any form of violence, but in this case I would make an exception.

Basically a time-line. More photos at the link. A few below-

Also soya and rapeseed oil.
China becoming a big market for Ukraine. What about Europe?
As for Russia - one assumes bread prices will increase there a lot.
Here in Ukraine a loaf of bread costs under 20 cents. The same with a bagette - French bread stick.
Generally during the day yesterday illegal armed formation 90 times violated the ceasefire.
During last night and end the day in Donbass situation significantly deteriorated. This was reported in the press center of the page in the ATO on Facebook....
, the greatest enemy activity was recorded near Mariupol.....
"Generally, during yesterday's day illegal armed formation 90 times violated the ceasefire. 14 times mercenaries employed artillery, 31 - mortars, 5 - tanks, once used multiple rocket launcher. Aug. 27 from midnight to 6 am the militants continued to fire with artillery at Stanitsa and Bogdanivka Starohnativka, near Mariupol "- sums up the press service of ATO.
What progress?! Apparently he's talking about progress on the Ukrainian side in implementing the Minsk agreement.
Ukraine and pro-Russian separatists, in a gesture to shore up a tenuous ceasefire, agreed on Wednesday to strive for an end to all truce violations from next Tuesday, the OSCE and rebel representatives said.

All dependent upon Putin's orders. I don't expect anything to happen. Putin has consistently lied. That is one thing you can be sure about.
