FIFA corruption: Documents show details of Jack Warner 'bribes'

Post by Admin on Sun Jun 07, 2015 8:47 am

There is ample evidence now available that $10 million in funds that have been identified in bribes were sent into accounts personally controlled by CONCACAF ex-Vice President Jack Warner. The real question that investigators must determine is whether that money was all used by Warner for personal purposes. Many involved in the case believe Warner did keep substantial amounts but also that he was an intermediary in charge of payments to others in FIFA. With the U.S. Department of Justice saying it has documentary and sworn testimony proving over $150 million identified as bribes, the FIFA investigation and resulting trials could last for years.

By Ed Thomas, BBC News, Trinidad

A BBC investigation has seen evidence that details what happened to the $10m sent from FIFA to accounts controlled by former vice-president Jack Warner.

The money, sent on behalf of South Africa, was meant to be used for its Caribbean diaspora legacy programme.

But documents suggest Mr Warner used the payment for cash withdrawals, personal loans and to launder money.
