Canada has developed a 55-day program to help Ukrainian troops survive the ongoing battle against well-equipped pro-Russia separatists. Today’s lesson: “How to find and kill the guy who just killed your friend.”

This classroom is much like any other — there are tables, benches, a whiteboard, students and a teacher up front. There is also gravel, and a smell of wet dog with a hint of gun oil. The classroom is a big green tent buffeted by wind and rain on the abandoned remains of what was once a Soviet military base in the former Soviet Socialist Republic of Ukraine. Within a hundred paces of the tent, 1980s-era rubber gas masks lie in the dirt around an entrance tunnel leading down to a bunker with a blast door as thick as my torso. The students in class today are Ukrainian soldiers plucked from the front lines to learn how to be soldiers from Canadians.

Today’s class is about counter-sniper techniques. Or in very real terms to these students “How to find and kill the guy who just killed your friend.” The Ukrainian soldiers are dressed in a mixed camouflage of new but uncoordinated military equipment. Their body armour is at their feet on the gravel, along with their helmets and rifles. Some, newly arrived from the front lines of their war with pro-Russian separatists, visibly struggle to keep their eyes open, while others sit almost at attention paying heed to every word the interpreter says, often interrupting and asking for clarifications. They look to be anywhere from age 15 to 50.

“I was very concerned initially about them coming right off the front lines and having no rest, but they are very motivated and very eager,” said Canadian Major Benjamin Rogerson, Commanding Officer of Charles Company, 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment from CFB Petawawa. “In a lot of cases they have not been home or had a lot of leave. So we were mindful of that when we developed the training. We didn’t want them to come right off of the front line into raw intensive training. We are still squeezing a lot into 55 days.”.............

Russia's Foreign Ministry says in its commentary on the article by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, published in various media, that the Alliance sticks to the line of "deterring" Russia.

"The Alliance has once again adopted the official line of "deterring" Russia and further changing the balance of power in the European region in its favor, including in the immediate vicinity of our borders. Moreover, this activity is scaling up at such a pace that even more reasons emerge to question its compliance with obligations under the Russia-NATO Founding Act with regard to the non-deployment of substantial combat forces," the commentary notes.

Putin did his best, he felt, not to make Russia’s involvement in the war in Syria look like another Afghanistan fiasco, influential Rada lawmaker Anton Herashchenko writes in Facebook Nov. 27.

After the downing by Turkey of the Russian jet Putin is in panic as his Great Russia project is falling apart.

He cannot down a Turkish plane in retaliation as Turkey is a NATO member, and the attack on her would be regarded as the attack on NATO with the US at the head.

What remains for Putin is to whine about a stab in the back by Turkey during his meeting with Jordan’s king.

Add to this that Syrian rebels shelled by tons of Russia’s missiles cold-bloodedly destroyed the Russian rescue chopper.

The video posted by the rebels shows how they install the guided missile and accurately hit the Russian chopper.

There is no doubt that between 8 and 10 Russian paratroopers who were on the chopper, not merely the pilots, were also killed.

What’s to be done with Syria, Turkey? Drop a nuclear bomb?

No flirtations by Putin and his FM Lavrov with the West to hammer up an anti-terrorist coalition will save Putin from collapse.

The economic sanctions imposed after Crimea grab will not be lifted, and Russia’s economy is steadily rolling toward the abyss.

The myth about Russia’s undefeatable war machine is evaporating quickly.

It’s high time Putin joined the company of Kaddafi, Hussein and Assad, Anton Herashchenko writes.
Russian Air Force during the operation in Syria has caused at least 17 air strikes on the territory of the north-west Syria, which occupied Syrian Turkmens. This Nov. 27 Reuters reported with reference to the comparison of the data the Russian Defense Ministry.

The agency notes that the Russian Defense Ministry to report that were destroyed ammunition bunkers, command centers and production plant an explosive belt in a number of Syrian cities, including Salma, and Gmam Kesladshuk. According to human rights activists in these cities live mostly ethnic Turkmen.

Salma particularly bombed at least once. Russian aircraft was hit at least 15 targets within a radius of 13 km from the city, which, according to Reuters, is considered the base of the rebel troops of Syrian Turkmens, struggling with the forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad. In Russian

Turkey's position in NATO will help Ukraine to get a gun, said MP from the "People's Front" Igor Guz broadcast talk show "Black Mirror".

"If Turkey will oppose Russia, arm, will NATO fortpostom anti-Russian position, it is possible that in the second year of our demands will give Ukraine a weapon," - said Guz.

According to him, the world is entering an era of serious geopolitical struggle. And Ukraine is beneficial to the countries bordering Russia, turned away from her. In Russian
"..the leadership of the Russian Federation will suspend visa-free regime that operates between Russia and Turkey. This decision will take effect on January 1," - said Lavrov.
Russia under Putin seems hell-bent on a path of self-destruction and isolation. Real madness showing itself.
At the same time, he said that Ukraine would expect supplies of another 250,000 tonnes of coal from South Africa in December.
He emphasized that the government was negotiating with suppliers from South Africa.

Apparently Turkey has requested a meeting with Putin.
Both Erdogan and Putin will be in Paris on 30 Nov - Climate conference.

UPDATED: Turkisg [sic] President Erdogan warns Russia not to 'play with fire' over downing of warplane
You would think that when they updated the story they could have got the spelling of "Turkish" correct... oh-well....
This story now in the Ukrainian press -
Эрдоган посоветовал РФ "не играть с огнем" (РБК-Украина)
Erdogan ...advised .. the RF "don't play with fire".

Petain welcomes the nice Mr Hitler, and
Hollande welcomes the nice Mr Putler

And dictator Assad, who is in the Putin-league for killing civilians, has always been at "home" in Paris...

...“Two sorts of measures are required: the bombings, and troops on the ground, which could include Free Syrian army forces, Sunni Arab forces and — why not? — regime forces,” said Mr Fabius.
The comments highlight a shift in the position of France, which has, up until now, considered Mr Assad as a pariah....

Looks to me like Putin has done some sort of deal with the French.
And the French would only do a deal if money is involved. Principles are of no concern to them. Dictator Assad - why not support him, they say!
I would expect a softening of the ban on French foods imported to Russia shortly. And Hollande saying that sanctions need to be lifted against the nice dictator man Mr nice Putin, who has only killed 10,000 people in Ukraine. C'est la vie. As for the new French bonhomme, Monsieur Assad,
Syrian government forces responsible for more civilian deaths than Isis, human rights group claims
8000 civilian dead in half a year. No wonder Putin gets on well with him, and now Hollande and the French. Scumballs, all of them.

Putin playing games. Relaxes the tension, and then hits again. He keeps repeating this process.

Still from a video - at this link

Crimea, or the Donbas, Putin brings great joy to many millions of people. Not.
People in queues all the time. Social networks communicating when fuel arrives at a certain gas / petrol station.

"The standard of living in Sevastopol fell. We were expecting the arrival of Russia to be very good, but it turned out very badly. These blockades do not suit us, "- she said.
This lady still thinks she is living in Ukraine. You are not allowed to think and speak your mind in Russia. You just watch Putin on tv, and wave the flag.
Hopefully she won't suffer too much for speaking out.
President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that Russia had given prior information to the United States of the flight path of the plane downed by Turkey on the Syrian border.

"The American side, which leads the coalition that Turkey belongs to, knew about the location and time of our planes' flights, and we were hit exactly there and at that time," Putin said at a joint press conference with French counterpart Francois Hollande in the Kremlin.

Ahead of the Hollande talks, Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan traded barbs, with the Russian leader saying he was waiting for an apology and Erdogan ruling out any such move.

Putin on Thursday dismissed as "rubbish" Turkey's claim that it would not have shot down the jet if it had known it was Russian..............

"Our military actions are effective, the militants so-called" Islamic State "and other radical groups suffer serious losses," - said Putin....
"In this regard, I consider that the army of President Assad himself are natural allies in the struggle against terrorism", - added the Russian president....
"Are there, perhaps, other forces who are willing to fight terror. We are now trying to establish a relationship with them...

This from Russian interfax. My reading of this - no change from Putin.
I wouldn't trust him one inch. "Other forces"... like the Syrian free army - Putin would make contact, and then bomb them. No doubt.
Hollande is living in cloud cuckoo land talking to this mad dictator, Putin. Being pushed by French business? Money?

In Russia all authority rests in the hands of Putin; but all the blame lies on Obama.
