News -
Russian forces attacked "more than 30 times" yesterday.
Also last night Russian terrorist group detained in Kiev. Unfortunately on Ukrainian Special forces died in the operation. See below.
Update - in the ATO zone 2 soldiers killed, and 10 wounded yesterday. (The two dead, and 7 of the injured when vehicle hit mine)

Weather -

Zero. But no snow. Cloudy also. High maybe around 2 or 3.
Similar throughout Ukraine. Kiev, Odesa, Donetsk, Lviv.

Footie -
Dynamo made it though )) 1-0. But Chelsea also won, so Dynamo go through in 2nd place.
Which means a very hard draw in the next round. Also - I expect they will play to an empty stadium again.
Pity because they are likely to draw maybe Bayern, or Barca, or Real. One of the big big teams.
Draw next Monday, I think. Thought - will they keep the Ukrainian and Russian team apart?!

The United States expects the European Union to support extension of sanctions against Russia in next week’s vote.

U.S. Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Adam Szubin said on Thursday, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"An EU vote to extend sanctions will make clear to the Russian government that economic normalization will not happen until it reverses its aggressive and destabilizing activities in Ukraine," Szubin said.

"We have worked closely with the EU to maintain economic pressure on Russia until the full implementation of Minsk, and believe strongly that this remains the appropriate benchmark," Szubin said in London. In Russian

The leader of subversive and reconnaissance group recently detained during the operation of special services in Kyiv, who was shot dead during arrest, appeared to be former soldier of the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps ‘Right Sector’ Serhii Amirov, whom the Security Service of Ukraine called hundred-per-cent Russia’s Federal Security Service agent.

Sources in law enforcement agencies, familiar with the details of the night raid in Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities told Lіga, Censor.NET reports.

It is noted that seven members of the Russian subversive and reconnaissance group were detained totally. The eighth one, the leader of the subversive and reconnaissance group, was shot dead. Three of the detainees were citizens of the Russian Federation. The rest including the shot person were citizens of Ukraine.

The names of the Russians have not been voiced. The interlocutors of the news outlet have confined themselves to a refutation of the previous version of the 'Caucasian trace': "There isn't even the smell of Dagestan." The Ukrainian side has already informed the Russian consulate on the detention of Russian citizens suspected of terrorist activities.

However, according to the outlet, the killed leader of subversive and reconnaissance group was Oleh Muzhchyl aka Serhii Amirov, a 50-year-old native of Donetsk. He had earlier been an undercover agent placed in the ranks of the "Right Sector" but was then expelled from the organization. The Right Sector representatives said they had severed ties with him back in summer. "He was hundred-per-cent FSB agent," the security agencies insisted. The eliminated saboteur repeatedly visited Russia. He used three different identities and passports. In Russian

Ambassadors of the 28 member states have postponed making a decision on Dec. 9 on renewing the bloc's economic sanctions against Russia for its military aggression in the Donbas.

Censor.NET reports citing Radio Liberty.

Permanent representatives of the EU countries had been expected to agree on a six-month extension of the sanctions without any debate. But Italia's ambassador said the matter should be decided by EU leaders who meet next week in Brussels.

"Italy and some other southern European states have shown some reluctance to maintain the sanctions, which have packed a powerful economic punch," the article notes.

As previously reported, Italian government suggested postponing the decision on the extension of economic sanctions against Russia for its military aggression in the Donbas. In Russian
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has ended his visit to Ukraine. On Dec. 7 he met with the country's leadership, on Dec. 8 the vice president addressed the Verkhovna Rada.

"Folks, we're home from Ukraine. This was a good trip.

"It was a real honor, on the final day, to be able to speak beak before the Rada - the Ukrainian legislature. The last American official to do so was President George H.W. Bush.

"I hope the members of the Rada accepted my candor in the spirit it was given. This is a country that has a second chance at establishing a genuine democracy. Many of the young people in this Rada were the ones filling the Maidan, raising their voices and demanding this of their government.

"Now, they are in a position to help make it a reality.

"And, they have two great threats right now: Russian aggression and endemic corruption. The United States is prepared to help them tackle both.

"And if they do, I have no doubt that this Rada will go down in history as the founding fathers of the first-ever united, democratic, genuinely free Ukraine.

That's my hope. And I believe in the people of Ukraine. I believe they will get this done." In Russian

The fighter of the Alfa special detachment who was killed in special operation last night in Kyiv used to conduct combat tasks in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) area.

This was announced by SBU speaker Olena Hitlianska at a briefing on Thursday, Censor.NET reports.

"Unfortunately, one of our servicemen, Alfa special detachment fighter, who was combating in the ATO area, was killed. He has many honors. But he was killed in Kyiv. In fact, he died saving a 7-year-old child, whose father joined the sabotage group," Hitlianska noted.

"We had to save the child first, and then to neutralize the saboteurs. He is saved at the expense of another life. No calculations here," she said.

Hitlianska also specified that this sabotage group was preparing terrorist acts in a number of Ukrainian cities.

SBU Chief of Staff Oleksandr Tkachuk announced that the soldier died in a hospital. Another Alfa fighter received wounds and is being treated.

He also noted that the search was conducted in Obolon district of Kyiv.

Tkachuk said the child was in fact a hostage of the situation. In Russian

The price has fallen about 10% since he thought about this!
Whatever, better than Tymoshenko's super deal of 450 dollars with Putin, widely acclaimed by her, the Kyivpost editorial team, and Putin himself, of course.
What will Ukraine ask for? 200?

Draft state budget for 2016 built on forecast average gas price of $210-215 – Energy Ministry

What are the EU countries currently paying?
This says 6.24 which I think is about 220 dollars / k m3.
January's price probably will be about 210.

I've never seen gas this low. 2.06.
The next "landmark" will be Brent falling below 40 dollars / barrel.
All good news for Ukraine and the gas price next year.
Also - each fall of 1 dollar now is an effective fall of 1/40 x 100% = 2.5% I believe.
Putin's war machine is running out of funds in a rapid manner.
BEIJING — North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un has claimed his country has developed a hydrogen bomb, a significant step forward from the less powerful atomic bomb....
Kim Jong Un - mega fruitcake dictator, perhaps Putin's closest ally. Mad dictators always support each other.
Reminds me of Putin's threats to use nuclear weapons after his invasion of Crimea and the Donbass. Fruitcakes.
"With the absence of fair elections and other mechanisms for a legal change of power, the only way to change things is revolution," Khodorkovsky said.
Citing an ongoing crackdown on democratic institutions and political dissent, Khodorkovsky suggested Putin had hijacked the country in a "full-fledged unconstitutional coup."

Talk like this has got to worry the Kremlin.
Nobody is talking about a possible "revolution" in Spain, or France, or Finland or....
But Russia is highly unstable due to the economic situation there, and the lack of basic freedoms and human rights.
Can the Kremlin keep a lid on it all, and keep supporting the dictator Putin? Or will they decide it is time for change?

The Tymoshenko-led Batkivshchyna faction signed the petition initiated by several reform-minded members of the Petro Poroshenko-led BPP calling for the resignation of Premier Arseny Yatseniuk and his cabinet, Ukrayinska Pravda reports Dec. 9.
“All the 70 members of my faction have signed the petition today,” Yulia Tymoshenko said.

Tymoshenko has only one aim - to be President.
I know this because I know somebody who attends her meetings.
Yatseniuk - very very difficult job. No money, war against Russia, and people expecting European utopia yesterday.
But - 70 members? Tymoshenko doesn't have 70 MPs. Don't get this.
Can they bring Yatseniuk down? Perhaps together with the opposition block and some nice Christmas bribes to other MPs from the Putin fund to destabilize Ukraine..
According to wiki, Tymoshenko has 18 seats. Opposition block - Yanukovich buddies - have 42. Together = 60.
They would need to bribe a lot of deputies to force Yatseniuk out.

In total, from mid-April 2014 to 15 November 2015, HRMMU recorded at least
29,830 casualties (Ukrainian armed forces, civilians and members of the armed groups) in the
armed conflict area of eastern Ukraine, including at least 9,098 killed and at least 20,732 injured. ...

Serious human rights abuses against the population residing in the territories
controlled by the self-proclaimed ‘Donetsk people’s republic’
and the self-proclaimed ‘Luhansk people’s republic’continued to be reported,
with new allegations of killings,
torture and ill-treatment, illegal detention and forced labour received by HRMMU. Local
residents continued to remain without any effective protection of their rights. Places of
detention maintained by the armed groups remained virtually inaccessible for independent oversight
, ...
Rallies to challenge the policies of the ‘Donetsk people’s republic’ or ‘Luhansk
people’s republic’ have been extremely rare because people are afraid to assemble and speak out... May 2015, a Ukrainian soldier was
stabbed after being captured and survived thanks to the medical personnel of a hospital,
having been taken to its morgue
. On 20 October, HRMMU received additional details
concerning the alleged summary execution of three members of Ukrainian volunteer
battalions in the yard of the former premises of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Donetsk, in mid-September ....
A Donetsk-based media professional stated to HRMMU that there was no freedom of
speech in the ‘Donetsk people’s republic’
, as “no one from local media would even think to express a critical opinion”
. To ensure their safety, journalists working in the areas
controlled by armed groups reportedly have increasingly resorted to self-censorship.

President Putin has put forward the same idea. Speaking at the United Nations in September, he called for a "genuinely broad alliance against terrorism, just like the one against Hitler"
Here bbc journalist Steve Rosenberg, again puts forward the Kremlin idea of a Yalta type conference, where Putin can divide up Europe as he wishes.
RFERL journalist Whitmore - a smart guy - warned of this a few weeks ago. And now Rosenberg pushes the Kremlin idea once more for the bbc.
Rosenberg tries to present a balanced argument, but fails, of course. Unlike Whitmore, who has more guts. The fact that the bbc twat is raising the issue of Russia dictating in Europe and beyond, is all that Putin's propaganda team needs. Rosenberg, the clown, has put the Russian position back onto the agenda.
Result - another Moscow Resident permit achieved for another year. Well done, Komrade Steve.

Ukraine has lost control of 85 coal mines, more than half its total, according to Ukraine’s energy ministry. After the separatists halted shipments, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said Ukraine didn’t have enough coal to get through the winter, though the energy minister played down talks of brownouts or energy rationing on Friday , saying it was working to diversify supplies.

European Union nations postponed a decision on December 9 on renewing the bloc's economic sanctions against Russia after Italy called for a debate on the matter.
The italians love a good fascist - Mussolini, Hitler, Putin.
Are they going to start kissing Putin's butt again? It looks like it. Scumballs, in the same ballpark as the Greeks.
Brave. You don't get many Russians doing this. Too scared, and too weak. I like the quote -

Earlier, sources in the security services LІ reported the death of Alpha SBU Special Forces soldier during the arrest Russian saboteurs - citizens of the Russian Federation in Kiev. During the capture of a saboteur wounded two investigators, one of them - seriously (head injury). After that fighters of group opened fire and destroyed the Russian commandos...
The special operation SBU and counterintelligence began late on December 9 in the capital. Police officers stopped the activities of sabotage and reconnaissance groups from Russia, who has worked in a number of Ukrainian cities, including Kiev. Detained three citizens of Russia and three citizens of Ukraine. Another member of the DRGs from Russia resisted, wounding two soldiers of Alpha and was killed by return fire. Commandos seized an arsenal of weapons, including explosives.

Russians planning terrorist attacks in Ukraine.
Russia is a terrorist state.
To be honest, a fairly typical figure. Road safety in Ukraine is appalling.
The result of decades of bribery. Anyone can buy a driving licence, and the police in many areas can be bribed to let you off a speeding ticket, or drunk driving.
Also, the roads are incredibly poorly designed in much of the country.
But Lavrov and Putin still spill out the old old lie; time after time after time, for the Shaun Walker journalists.

All he is doing is building up more and more hate against Russia. Putin is completely mad.

Due to the decline in oil prices economic and political influence Russia has decreased, he said.

"Putin with his own hands destroyed all the influence of Russia, and, in the decades ahead if the Putin regime will be durable. But I think it will last long, and as long as Russian influence in Ukraine can only by bayonets and tanks. Even with the new Russian regime with Ukraine may be based on business, trade ", - he said.

He predicted that US influence in Ukraine will increase.

"American influence in Ukraine will only increase, because that Ukraine should join NATO. It is obvious that the guarantee of the Budapest memorandum did not work, and the only guarantee of security that can be provided by the Ukraine - it is NATO membership. The conflict with Russia of course will slow introduction, but I am quite sure that in a few years Ukraine will become a member of NATO and the US influence as the leading NATO countries will be further strengthened, "- suggested Rabinowitz.

Saying that, while the Russian-Putin regime persists, Russian influence in Ukraine can only by bayonets and tanks..
