The Immortal Sovok State
Tue Jan 12, 2016 3:06 pm
Here is an old article in the NYT from 20 years ago. It is a commentary on a book written by the Marquis de Custine, who visited Russia in 1839.
The conclusions of the Marquis are astonishing for their applicability to today's Russia.
H/T http://romaninukraine.com/
Example:
"The political regime here would not survive 20 years of free communication with Western Europe. Pay no heed to the boasting of Russians; they confuse splendor with elegance, luxury with refinement, policing and fear with the foundations of society. . . . Up to now, as far as civilization is concerned, they have been satisfied with appearances, but if they were ever able to avenge their real inferiority, they would make us pay cruelly for our advantages over them."

Absolutely amazing. Written in 1843... It just smells of Putin today!!
quote
Officially, such brutal tyranny is called respect for unity and love of order; ..
Men stay silent in Russia, but the stones speak, in pitiful accents.
What does surprise me is that among all the voices testifying to the glory of this single man, not one rises above the chorus to speak for humanity against the miracles of autocracy.
You can say of the Russians, both great and small, that they are intoxicated with slavery.

Great article but the page view was spoilt by the sight of that twat Taras Kuzio, the infamous Tymoshenko worshipper and apologist!
Perhaps the leopard has changed its spots but, having avoided any Kuzio news, reports and his thousands of personal opinions since Tymoshenko regally screwed Ukraine with his 100% backing, you tell me.
Tymoshenko - "gas princess" who made a fortune worth billions of dollars, now hidden, and who now incredulously pleads poverty.
Kuzio - Professor Gasbag
Video on the page:
Sasha Baravik said it correctly
@6:50 — “I don’t care whose job it is . . . if I see the corruption I will scream about it”
Then Taras Kuzio replies like a typical of Canadian coward ......
