In the State Duma raised the issue of the legitimacy of the independence of the Baltic States

State Duma deputy from the "United Russia" Evgeny Fedorov and Anton Romanov asked the Prosecutor General's Office with a request to verify the legitimacy of the establishment in 1991, the State Council of the Soviet Union recognized the independence of the Baltic republics.

According to the parliamentarians, their decisions, the State Council has damaged the country's sovereignty and launched the mechanism of dismemberment of a single state.

The MPs sent a letter to Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika. In a message to the authors point out that the State Council was set up without making the necessary changes in the prescribed manner to the Constitution of the USSR, and thus it is unconstitutional public authority.

At the same time, emphasize the parliamentarians, decision of this body were to be binding. So, in September 1991 the first meeting of the State Council, which adopted a number of resolutions, recognize the independence of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Deputies noted that these decisions "consolidated rejection of the Soviet Union a large part of its strategically important territory, the loss of sea ports and waters caused the collapse of a single defense area of ​​the country, the violation of economic relations with the Baltic states." According to United Russia, such actions are "particularly dangerous state crimes", which have no statute of limitations and that need to be qualified as treason.
