Pavlo Klimkin ‎@PavloKlimkin

Steinmeier and French protocol offered me symbolically stand between EPO and Lavrov, but it seems no progress with Russia is not conducive.

At the same time, the Russian media presented this as a gesture of reluctance Klimkina photographed against the Ukrainian flag.

Recall, held in Paris meeting of foreign ministers, "Norman Quartet". In Russian
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that the talks in "Norman format" in order to resolve the crisis in Ukraine, which took place in Paris, were not decisive, but only the next step in solving the problem. He stated this in an interview late on Thursday evening in Paris to conclude the negotiations, which lasted nearly 5 hours, reports "UNIAN" .

"Today's meeting is the next step, but to talk about the decisive progress, given the real security situation, given that yesterday we had 63 fire, given that the OSCE does not have access to many regions of Donbass and Ukrainian-Russian border, you can not" - the minister said.

According to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, "was not willing to go deeper into the security issues in terms of access to the special monitoring mission of the OSCE." "He proposed to leave it to the experts in Minsk consideration (the Trilateral contact group), so he expressed a willingness to support a conceptual ideas and some proposals of the OSCE. But we need a comprehensive security ", - he stressed.

According to Klimkin, these proposals is to clear access to the territory of Donbass, "this is a very clear pattern of how the CMM can get effective monitoring along the Ukrainian-Russian border." "This is, firstly, the organization of a number of bases along the border of the CMM, the ability to carry out inspections, establish the appropriate technical equipment, which would monitor the border and the most critical point of both day and night, the possibility of the presence of CMM on our part. We believe that this proposal, if implemented, can effectively ensure the site monitoring of the Ukrainian-Russian border, which is still not controlled by Ukraine ", - detailed Klimkin.

Also, according to him, the Ukrainian side "placed special emphasis on the establishment of a security zone, such as in Debaltsevo, or around Donetsk airport." "We have focused on the need for exchange of hostages. All that is happening now is the lack of any progress - we were able to make very limited exchange ", - said the Minister.

Kremlin-backed militants have finally released Maria Varfolomeyeva, the Luhansk journalist held hostage since Jan 2015. She was exchanged for a Russian soldier and a civilian, and is now safely on government-controlled territory.

Serious concern for the 31-year-old journalist’s health had been expressed after the promised exchange a week ago fell through. The prisoners who were freed on Feb 29 reported seeing Varfolomeyeva the previous day and said that she was in a bad state and weighed only around 30 kilograms. She was being held in a separate basement cell without any light and by herself. This prompted the militants from the self-proclaimed ‘Luhansk people’s republic’ to release another video with Varfolomeyeva on March 2. If they wanted it to calm concerns, it did not, since the young woman seems alarmingly thin.

Despite the obvious danger to a pro-Ukrainian journalist who had supported the Luhansk Euromaidan, Varfolomeyeva stayed in the city to care for her elderly grandmother, who died shortly after Maria was taken prisoner.

Varfolomeyeva had been asked by Yury Aseyev, a Luhansk journalist now working for the Kharkiv Human Rights Group to take some photographs for him. It was while doing what for any journalist is part of their job that she was taken hostage.

Although captured on Jan 9, 2015, at a time when there had been no shelling in Luhansk for several months, the militants claimed that she was taking photos of buildings where militants were staying in order to pass on the coordinates to the Ukrainian military..............

"Ukraine is definitely in the next 20-25 years will not join the EU", - he said.

The same, according to the leader of the European Commission, concerns the prospects of Ukraine's accession to NATO.
However, Juncker expressed his hope that the citizens of the Netherlands in a referendum on April 6 vote on ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

"I know how the Dutch think and assume that they will vote" for ", - he said......  In Ukrainian

Ukraine can do just fine independently. As we can see, the EU's not the best place currently to be involved in, and I don't think it's going to get much better, anytime soon.

Ukraine's resources and products they produce and manufacture will allow them to have a very economic development. They can set the market on certain goods, if they wanted to, once they're fully up and going. Don't forget, Ukraine's the second largest European country. So they have lots to offer, not only Europe but globally, as we can see with China being supplied by Ukraine, along with what's called the silk road. They'll be receiving LNG from the US very soon, so the dependence on Russia will diminish.

So! IMO, Ukraine doesn't need to become a member of a union that's basically in place for less than a handful of its members. Can Ukraine survive without it being a member? Aboslutely. The Association Agreement's almost fully in place. That will open many doors and not being an EU member. Canada's increasing imports from Ukraine now, as will the US. North America's a very big region to export to, so Europe won't be the only place in town to do business in. Being an EU member country will only bring more restrictions to Ukraine which they can do well without. So don't think that Ukraine not being an EU member will hasten its advancement.  As we see some EU members struggling. Why? This isn't a real union, IMO. It only works for a handful of oligarch. Ukraine has had enough of that in its past history. Time for it to expand its horizons.
Christian Estrosi, head of the French region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and mayor of Nice, has called the Crimean city of Yalta as belonging to the Russian Federation and signed a letter of intention and renewal of friendly relations with Yalta.

As reported by Ukrinform, the delegation of the so-called “mayor of Yalta” had been on a visit to Nice from 26 February to 1 March. The visit had taken place with the participation of Aleksander Orlov, ambassador of Russia to France.

A statement on Estrosi’s official site mentioned that “the first visit of the official delegation of the official delegation of Yalta (Crimea) to Europe after the referendum on independence and joining Russia is a highly symbolic step.”

Moreover, a letter of intention of developing friendly relations between the two cities was signed during the meeting, according to the statement: “Following the signing of the Sister City Agreement between Yalta and Nice on 26 November 1960, the mayor of Nice, in the presence of the ambassador of Russia in France, met with the mayor of Yalta Andrew Postenko to sign a letter of intent for the development of friendly relations and restoration of twin-city relations between Yalta and Nice.”.............

Obama announced on March 2 that he was extending the sanctions. He said Russia's actions in Ukraine "continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States."

U.S. sanctions specifically mention Russia's "purported annexation of Crimea and its use of force in Ukraine."......

When the foreign ministers of Russia, Ukraine, Germany, and France meet in Paris today to discuss the Minsk ceasefire, they may as well be attending a funeral.
Because if the Minsk agreement is not dead, it is -- at the very least -- clearly on life support.
And this was all very predictable from the very start. Minsk, in many ways, was a legal fiction.
It was signed under duress amid fears that Russia would mount a full-scale invasion of Donbas.
It pretended that Moscow was a mediator in a conflict in which Moscow was the aggressor.
And it made unreasonable demands on Ukraine to overhaul its domestic political arrangements with a Kalashnikov pointed at its head.
This wasn't a ceasefire. It was blackmail. It was extortion....

ussia’s Gazprom has spurned higher gas transit tariffs via Ukraine, Naftohaz Ukrayiny director for development Yury Vitrenko said, speaking on Hromadske TV March 2.

“The contract with Russia envisages raising transit tariffs, and Russia has no legal grounds to ignore the fact,” the Ukrainian official said.

In 2016, Gazprom has to pay in taxes about $6.4 billion or thrice as much as in 2015.

Higher tariffs are not Ukraine’s whim, the official said. They are prescribed by the Ukrainian law following the implementation of EU’s energy legislation, he said.

...Are games with arms dangerous? In 2015 members of an armed “Ghost” started educating a girl, 12-year-old Bohdana. She was a daughter of one of the militants. According to her, she cooks food for the militants, makes tea for them, and practices bandaging the wounded. The girl also writes poems, and words “junta” and “fascism” are widely used in them. The militants teach her to fire at “fascists”.
The girl says in front of the camera that she does not want to live in Ukraine because beasts live there, and she enjoys firing in the direction where “fascists” are, according to her instructors.
If to admit that not only Bohdana, who is injured by the war and manipulated by adults, but other children share such views, those who are taught to fire, to crawl with an automatic gun, and to love the motherland through hatred to enemies, then the reality of “children diversionary units” is not a fantastic idea.
Duting the peaceful time, psychologists, doctors, and parents argued whether it is useful for children to play “a war”, whether computer games with shooting are harmful. However, when the reality of the Donbas is a real war, it is unlikely that there are people who think that children should participate in a real war. It may be said only by those who do not care about their children....
Frequent readers have no doubt noticed my, shall we say, “special” feelings toward Russia Today (RT) and MIA Rossiya Segodnya chief editor Margarita Simonyan. I’ve decided that it’s finally time to explain them in more detail, and frankly I just wanted to get it off my chest....
So here’s what I really don’t like and in fact despise about Margarita Simonyan- her duplicity, hypocrisy, and constant lying. Margarita is an extremely intelligent person with a well-tuned moral compass. The only pity is that she shows this in all the wrong ways. In every interview Margarita loves to lecture about journalistic ethics, addressing both her Russian colleagues and Western counterparts. The problem is that all her moral preaching would best be applied to herself. Besides that, she’s continuously lying. ...
...As of March 1, 2016 the largest recorded in the last 5 years of gas reserves in Ukrainian underground storage facilities - 10.02 billion cubic meters, which is 23% or 1.9 billion cubic meters more than last year.
Or at least, not to increase it further, as planned. That would be a help. They need to stop all the massive price rises. The gas price has fallen by about half since the agreement was made with the IMF.
Reading more, the problem is the fall in the value of the hryvnia. This has completely offset the fall in the price of gas. The former has cancelled the latter out.
