The trial against the defendants in the case of corruption within FIFA will begin in 2017

US Department of Justice is planning to launch a lawsuit against the defendants in corruption cases in the International Football Federation in February 2017. On it informs AFP referring to a letter from the Attorney Robert KAPE, addressed to the judge of the federal court in Brooklyn Raymond Diri.

According to the source, the prosecution plans to close the investigation against the defendants in the case on 30 June. Then, within six months will be held a preliminary hearing on the case, which is expected to be completed in January 2017. After that start jury selection, which, according to the agency, can last from a few days to a few weeks before the actual commencement of litigation.

The largest in the history of the FIFA scandal erupted in late May 2015, when the hotel in Zurich two days before the presidential elections in the organization at the request of American justice Swiss police detained seven high-ranking officials of the organization on suspicion of corruption. Total charges were brought against 14 former and current football officials. According to the US Department of Justice, they received a bribe in the amount of about $ 150 million in 24 years.

The second wave of arrests began in Zurich on December 3, when custody was taken by the former president of the Confederation of football in North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF) Alfred Javito, as well as the head of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) and FIFA vice-president Juan Angel Napout of Paraguay.
