A vote to leave the European Union in the British referendum would weaken the bloc's efforts to maintain a determined front against Russian aggression, Britain's Europe minister said on Saturday, according to Reuters.

NATO remained the main player in European security, David Lidington told the Globsec security conference in Bratislava, but the EU could play a strong role in responding to Russian challenges in the field of energy, use of information and cyber capabilities, as reported by Reuters.

The "In" camp holds a one-point lead ahead of Britain's June 23 referendum on whether it should remain in the 28-member bloc, according to an online opinion poll by YouGov released on Friday.

"In terms of maintaining a determined front in the face of Russian aggression – that would be weakened," Lidington said referring to the impact of a possible decision to leave............

Pure BS!

The only difference will be, the UK won't be a member. Has nothing to do with it being a NATO member. All European countries will continue to work with each other to fight Russian aggression as most have been doing. This is nothing but fear-mongering from the "in" camp. Good try, but the Brits aren't dumb as you might think.

Groysman's openness about his background isn't customary in a country where anti-Semitism and Communist repression made it undesirable for politicians to be seen as too Jewish.

By Cnaan Liphshiz as published in Haaretz, Apr 14, 2016

JTA - Like many Ukrainian mayors, Volodymyr Groysman used to visit his local synagogue on Rosh Hashanah and Hanukkah.

But unlike most of them Groysman, the former mayor of Vinnytsia, did not visit the synagogue as a political gesture. He was going in his private capacity as a member of his central Ukraine city’s Jewish community.

Groysman’s Jewishness is not very unusual, even for a mayor and senior politician in Ukraine, where 360,000 Jews live. But his openness about it was not customary in a country where anti-Semitism and decades of Communist repression once made it undesirable for politicians to be seen as too Jewish, said the local rabbi, Shaul Horowitz.................

Germany’s “Bild” has published excerpts from a new book by Boris Reitschuster entitled “Putin’s Secret War” that suggests that Moscow is organizing special military units inside Germany and other Western countries that the Kremlin could use to destabilize these states in the event of a crisis.

Although Reitschuster’s claims are disputed, one indication that they likely deserve to be taken seriously is that when his materials appeared in “Bild” on Monday, hackers immediately took down his email account................

Putin’s Russia is in for a very somber period of its history, Russia-based Olexandr Sotnik writes on Facebook Apr. 16.

“Russia is now entering its final period, ‘the golden age,’ because of the massive fear among the high and mighty after the publication of Panama documents.

It is not merely Putin’s headache but that of the entire global corruption system. The world has changed following the publication. Now the owners of dubious off-shore companies cannot be immune from the public eye.

Hence, the earlier scenario of Putin quitting his office quietly is no longer viable.

Russia is in for a somber period of screw tightening that will inevitably lead to a social explosion and break-up of Russia into several states.

“The golden age” with its army of police will be one of the most ignoble pages of Putin’s Russia and dot all the I's in the existence of the moribund empire,” the journalist says.

The new U.S. president will continue to support Ukraine if the Ukrainian leadership will carry out intensive reforms and truly fight corruption.

Expert of the Brookings Institution, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Steven Pifer said at the 9th Kyiv Security Forum, Censor.NET reports citing LIGA.net.

"If you engage in political games instead of reforms, the West may turn away from you. We hope that the new government will work effectively and promptly, otherwise there is a risk that the West's patience runs out. It is not endless," he said.

According to Pifer, the new U.S. president will continue to assist Ukraine if the Ukrainian leadership carries out intensive reforms and truly fights corruption. "The question is, what Ukraine the new American president will see nine months later. If Ukraine is plunged into a political crisis without any reforms, the president will be tempted to say, let the Europeans deal with Ukraine themselves. And this is bad," he stressed.

Pifer recognized that inhibition of reforms in Ukraine is beneficial to the Kremlin, which uses the conflict in the Donbas to pressure the government of Ukraine.

....Inevitably, the civil activists and NABU investigators—rigorously selected, trained by Western anti-fraud services and well paid—are provoking resistance from the old system. The General Prosecutor’s office, headed until recently by Viktor Shokin, a protégé of Mr Poroshenko, has refused to pass information to NABU and attacked the Anti-Corruption Action Centre. “In a country where officials steal by percentage points of GDP, it was always going to be a struggle,” says Ms Kaleniuk. “We were ready for it.”
