Ukraine’s sunflower oil producer and grain trader Kernel (KER PW) reported on April 20 its oil sales surged 28% yoy and 8% qoq to 320 kt in 3QFY16 (January-March 2016), Concorde Capital informed clients in an online advisory.

Kernel’s oilseed crushing volumes remained flat yoy at 704 kt. The sales growth was driven by strong production in the preceding quarter. In 9MFY16, oil sales grew 6% yoy to 775 kt.

Grain sales grew by 6% yoy to 1.4 mmt in 3QFY16, on the back of two developments. Firstly, a debottlenecking project was completed at its Ukrainian transshipment facility, which reached a historical high monthly utilization rate in March of 435 kt. Secondly, the company’s sales of grain and resales of third-party grain was induced by the reinstatement of VAT refunds on grain exports as of Jan. 1, 2016. In 9MFY16, grain sales were still 7% yoy lower at 3.7 mmt due to farmers’ lower than normal sales in preceding quarters.

Kernel’s port terminal throughput increased 20% yoy to 1.5 mmt in 3QFY16, and grew 12% yoy to 4.3 mmt in 9MFY16.

Concorde analyst Roman Topolyuk added: “Kernel performed in the last quarter pretty much in line with management’s guidance of 2.7 mmt oilseed crushing in FY2016. Other segments are also doing well, and we expect to see another strong quarter for grain trading and port transshipment. We expect the company to report EBITDA of USD 375 mln in FY2016 (-5% yoy), which implies Kernel is trading at a compelling 2016 EV/EBITDA multiple of 3.2x, by our estimates. We reiterate our bullish view on the stock.

The flag of 'Novorosia' is flying over one of the graves.

Ukraine has been a NATO partner for quite some time. They've taken part overseas working along with other NATO "members" in certain hot areas. What this shows is another sign that NATO has its door open for Ukraine. It's a country strategically located and beneficial for NATO. It's just a matter of time.

Banks have been offering around 10% returns on deposits of 6 months or a year. But expect this to start dropping soon.
Risky, but still maybe worth a go at sticking some money in a stable Ukrainian bank (sic) and getting maybe 10% return.
(last year you could get 15 or more %).
Plus the hryvnia should slowly rise in value. So your investment might increase by ... 30% over 2 years? We will see....
Not a bad return, but some risk involved.

About 1.3 million biometric passports have received Ukrainian
That is a lot!
Posted this story yesterday, but in Ukrainian.
Russians - living in the past, not in the real world.
Maybe most Italians would like the return of the Roman empire.
30-odd % of Russians still have outside toilets in the bottom of the garden. Progress under Putin - zippo. Poverty figures on the rise.

The report also listed the developed countries with the lowest proportion of hygienic toilets to population. Russia came out worst, with Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria and Latvia rounding out the top five....

The Russian scumballs will delay and delay. An inhuman administration. An inhuman dictatorship.
Generally good cool analytical writing by the former US ambassador.
But -
putting up gas prices again - maybe by another 20% is NOT going to be popular.
Maybe Ukraine can negotiate with the IMF, given that gas prices have fallen a lot during the past year?
A smaller increase - maybe 10% - would be more acceptable.

Deputy head of the State Service for Crimea and Sevastopol Zaremba Ozenbash says Ukraine must not supply water to the peninsula from its mainland until Crimea is under the Russian control.
[Note from Nelson. Although this is in English, it is a mis-translation by somebody. My opinion. Original here is a bit complicated - in Ukrainian, but says, as you would expect, no water for Crimea until it returns to Ukrainian control. ]

Speaking on Krym. Realiji radio Apr. 21, the official said, “We must not solve the problems [lack of water – Ed.] facing the occupation authorities.

That is why we closed the canal taking Dniper water to Crimea. The water will be used to improve the irrigation in the bordering Kherson oblast, he added.

The water from the mainland Ukraine accounted for 85% of the amount needed by the peninsula.

Water supply to Crimea was cut when Russia grabbed the peninsula in January of 2014.
...The war in Ukraine’s east rages on, however, with one senior Defense official telling SitRep that there are 7,000 Russian troops still inside Ukraine, advising pro-Moscow rebels and engaging in the fighting themselves.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intervention in the Syrian conflict to prop up the regime of Bashar al-Assad hasn’t made a dent in the ability of Russia to send more equipment to Ukraine, either. Over the past year, Russia has shipped new rocket launchers, artillery, drones, and advanced electronic warfare equipment to the eastern Donbass region.
“I think they can sustain this for a considerable period of time,” the official said. “Our view is that they could sustain this easily for 24 months” even if oil prices remain low and the Russian economy continues to stagnate. Despite an announcement last month that the Russian military would begin to withdraw forces from Syria, instead Moscow sent more advanced helicopters, and the level of daily airstrikes has remained steady....

I have watched Rada tv today, but I missed this.
Personally I think they need another candidate. Pushing Lutsenko's candidacy is not a good idea. It will backfire.
I would think impossible to find political concensus on this. Everybody has their own interests and corrupt deals at heart.
But they need to make the process clear and transparent. Otherwise the citicism will be massive.
They need a lawyer with no political affiliations. Young, intelligent. Unlikely, judging by the previous title-holder.

April 19 Ukraine stopped importing natural gas from Hungary, fuel supplies from Slovakia and Poland stay in place, according to the operator GTS of Ukraine, the state company "Ukrtransgaz".
According to the company, is April 18 largest daily volume of gas imports from Hungary - 4.13 million cubic meters, while from Slovakia - 3.84 million cubic meters of Poland - 3,874 million cubic meters....
No word on why. My guess - not needed. It was been very warm in Western Ukraine this April. Maybe also they expect the price to drop further in the 3rd quarter. Hard to say. July - . Still no gas from Russia. Ukraine was Gazprom's biggest customer. No longer.

Groisman the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth: Thank you for support
Thursday, 21 April 2016 09:59
Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groisman congratulated Queen Elizabeth II on 90th birthday.
"Today marks '90 Queen Elizabeth II. I congratulate!" - He wrote in Twiiter.
"Thank you for your support of Ukraine", - said Groisman.
"God save the queen", - added the head of the Ukrainian government.

"O Lord, our God arise, scatter our enemies, and make them fall.
Confound their politics, frustrate their knavish tricks, on Thee our hopes we fix, O save us all."

This verse of the national anthem of the UK not sung too often now.
But Prince Charles was one of the first to say that Putin was acting like Hitler.
He raised a diplomatic storm when he said it. But now - people realise that he was right. Putin is like Hitler.
Headquarters: Militants fired 33 times, Avdiyivka was "hot"
Thursday, April 21, 2016, 6:42
For the past day gunmen opened fire on the forces ATO 33 times, of which 9 shelling occurred with large-caliber weapons.
The press center ATO Staff reports page on Facebook.
"Ignoring the Minsk agreements fighters firing shots struck with mortars caliber 120mm towards Popasna and mortars of 82mm caliber - in Ukrainian fortifications near Zaitsev," - said in a statement.
Hot Avdeevki was in the area where the militants strike ATO forces with mortars, grenade launchers, machine guns and small arms.
"Despite serious pressure on militants Mar'yintsi where illegal armed groups used 14 times full arsenal of weapons, including mortars whose caliber and 82mm, control of the situation rests with the Armed Forces of Ukraine", - the headquarters.
Also militants were active in the direction Shyrokynoho, Vodnaya, Berioza, Krasnogorovka, Butivka mine, Chastye and Novozvanivky.
"During this period counterterrorist operation forces opened fire 14 times in response to the most dangerous areas of convergence enemy" - the press center.

Seems to me that Ukrainian forces are returning fire more now.
They realise that the OSCE are basically a waste of space. And, anyway, many of the OSCE "independent observers" are Russian military. Russian spies, as they are called here, in Ukraine.
