Veterans will gather this morning at war memorials.
In Moscow for Putin it is an equivalent of a nationalistic election rally.

Actually we were there before the speaking event took place, which I wasn't aware it was going to occur. it was setup (stage) in same property as the popular statue holding up the sword and shield, which I was disappointed that it's still showing the hammer and sickle on the shield.

Concert in the evening on Maidan. Brass band, I understand. Heard one yesterday also.
Me - planning to go to the centre of Kiev around midday. Weather beautiful at the moment. 10 am.

I spent some time walking around Kiev centre today.
In Podol - very quiet really. I went for a pizza with friends. Large place, but only about 5 other people there.
Then went for a walk along the renovated Sea Port front at Pochtova Plocha.
Quite nice there now. Many people simply going for a walk with young children. Many young couples. Some people taking a boat cruise.
A few - but not many - people on Trukhanov ostrov. Sunbathing. Water too cold to swim at the moment. Maybe June.
But a warm day today. Especially in the strong sunshine.
Then I walked up, and then down to Maidan. More people there. Some " pop" bands playing. Again - young families going for a walk. Kreshatik is closed.
I also saw perhaps 30 soldiers - Aidar? Congregating next to the Kozakiy Hotel. Right on Maidan - a block from OBriens.
Metro. Moderately busy. A lot of people getting on and off at Arsenalna - going to the Eternal Flame, I presume, and Rodina Mat war memorials.
I assume.

On Victory Day over Nazism, the President of Ukraine laid flowers to the Eternal Fire and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The ceremony took place in the Memorial of Eternal Glory...

I've been through Shevchenko park many many times, but never noticed that the monument there was to a sailor! You learn something every day.
In Kiev on the metro I saw a youngish man with a poppy and an Ukrainian " lenta".. ribbon - attached to it ) A nice touch.

Kiev to me seemed very quiet. No problems. To be honest, like a family day.
