The European Union on Saturday published details of its decision extending sanctions against Russia for its 2014 takeover of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula, saying it continues to oppose the "illegal annexation ... and does not recognize it," Voice of America reports.

The extended penalties include asset freezes and visa bans against nearly 150 Russians and 37 entities that the EU's statement described as "responsible for action against Ukraine's territorial integrity," according to VOA. An official EU journal said the penalties include bans on a range of imports and products produced in Crimea and the Black Sea port of Sevastopol. They will remain in effect until June 23, 2017. The measures block European investment in those territories, ban any European purchases of real estate and prohibit European financing of Crimean companies. Banned European exports target Crimea's transport, telecommunications and energy sectors. Speaking Friday at a forum in Russia's St. Petersburg, President Vladimir Putin criticized the sanctions for damaging Russian-European relations. Moscow is willing to improve business ties with Europe, Putin said, but the EU must meet his government halfway.................

“Regardless of whether he can be personally involved in this transition process, Mikhail Khodorkovsky will be a hero for Western supporters of Russian liberalism and a thorn in the side of the Kremlin for years to come.”

From Huffington Post, 06/18/2016

An interview by Samuel Ramani MPhil student, University of Oxford:

Khodorkovsky shared his thoughts on Russia’s future in a speech to the Oxford Union on April 27, 2016. After his speech, I had an opportunity to interview him for some more in-depth insights into his past involvement in politics and his views on the Russian opposition. His perspectives will be outlined in depth below:

Mikhail Khodorkovsky on His Involvement in the Russian Political System

Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s political role in Russia has been a subject of extensive controversy since his emergence as a Kremlin critic in the early 2000s. Khodorkovsky’s supporters regard him as a liberal democratic crusader against Putin’s authoritarian ambitions and a genuine prisoner of conscience. Khodorkovsky’s critics deride him as an opportunist who accumulated tremendous personal wealth from the lawlessness and disorder of the 1990s. In the eyes of his detractors, Khodorkovsky opposed Kremlin corruption only when Putin’s centralization of state power and crackdowns on oligarchs jeopardized his economic interests and political clout.

In light of this polarizing debate, I asked Khodorkovsky during my interview why he waited until 2003 to release his report on corruption and criminality perpetrated by the Kremlin. He responded by rejecting the widely held notion that his anti-corruption campaign began in 2003. To provide evidence for his point, he detailed his support for NTV, a television station that was scathingly critical of the Second Chechen War in 1999.

Khodorkovsky’s exact words were as follows: “In fact, my opposition to Putin began before 2003. I wrote my report on corruption to Putin hoping that he would choose another course. Basically, when you talk about the fortunes and fate of NTV and Vladimir Gusinsky at the time when a lot of pressure was being put on him, I was the person who provided him with a loan. In fact, that loan I provided to Gusinsky formed part of the criminal case against me later on. The loan was $200 million.”.....................

President Vladimir Putin loves to reel off statistics, but here’s one he may not trumpet at his annual investment forum in St. Petersburg this week: Russia’s reliance on American commerce has never been greater.

Since leading the push for western penalties on Russia over Ukraine two years ago, the U.S. has leapfrogged Turkey, Japan, Poland and South Korea to become the country’s No. 5 trading partner outside the former Soviet Union.

While European Union members bear the brunt of the trade war -- sanctions and counter-sanctions have cut the bloc’s bilateral trade with Russia by an estimated 100 billion euros ($112 billion) -- U.S. companies led by Boeing Co., Cargill Inc. and Yum! Brands Inc. have been investing for the long-haul and gaining market share.

“The initial shock of the sanctions and economic troubles has worn off,” said Alexis Rodzianko, head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Moscow. “Companies committed to being here have thick enough skins to survive.”

Titanium, Rockets

Boeing, whose design bureau in Moscow is its largest outside the U.S., this month opened a training and research center at the government-backed Skolkovo technology park with a ceremony that was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich and U.S. Ambassador John Tefft.

The Chicago-based company, which buys a third of its titanium from Russia, struck a $7.4 billion deal to sell 20 747-8 freighters to Moscow-based Volga-Dnepr Group last year, providing a much-needed boost to a jumbo-jet program that had no net orders in 2014 for the first time since sales started in 1966. It also won Congressional approval to resume buying Russian rocket engines to launch U.S. satellites through a venture with Lockheed Martin Corp.

“We’re optimistic about the future,” Tefft said at the June 3 event. “It’s good to develop partnership between our countries despite the political situation.”

The geopolitical standoff between former Cold War adversaries and the collapse in energy prices may have ravaged Russia’s trade with the rest of the world, but the U.S. has fared better than every other major partner but China..
Solomenskyi District Court of Kyiv detained Vasyl Pihuliak for two months with an alternative to bail today, June 19. He is suspected of stealing Ukrainian gas owned by the state.

Earlier the court arrested nine suspects.

According to preliminary data, the state suffered damages of 3 billion hryvnia as a result of the split-up, of which 1.6 billion is funds obtained from the resale of gas intermediaries and derived through fictitious companies, while 1.3 billion hryvnia is the unpaid rent for the use of mineral resources.

Earlier, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine raided the office of MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko March 16. The NABU stated that the searches were carried out under the pretrial investigation of criminal case initiated into abuse of office during sale of the natural gas jointly extracted with Ukrhazvydobuvannia SE.

NABU searched MP Onyshchenko's formal chamber for the second time June 15.

Prosecutor General's Office received a presentation of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) to lift the immunity of the people's deputy Oleksandr Onyshchenko.

The Security Service of Ukraine will make the necessary changes to put one of the militants' leaders Motorola on the international wanted list.

MP Anton Herashchenko announced on 112 TV Channel.

"I think that the SBU investigators on the Motorola case will make the necessary changes, accusing him of murder, which he repeatedly acknowledged, and he will be put on the international wanted list," he said.

He added that Interpol has refused the SBU to declare Russian citizen Arseniy 'Motorola" Pavlov wanted since, according to its statutes, the defendants under the participation in illegal armed groups (IAF) cannot be put on the international wanted list. The militant was charged under article 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to Herashchenko, Interpol does not conduct search of those accused of treason, espionage, and participation in illegal armed groups. "They do it for murder, rape, robbery, burglary, violent, and economic crimes," the MP said.   In Ukrainian/український

WTI Crude Oil
$47.98 ▲1.77 3.69%
Brent Crude Oil
$49.17 ▲1.98 4.03%

Looking like things have settled at around 50 dollars a barrel. That should also keep gas prices stable at around 170 dollars / 1000 cu m
That should be ok for the Ukrainian market.
I think that the original budget was based on a price of about 210. So... that's good. It will help balance the books.
Gas subsidies have to be one of Ukraine's biggest outgoings.

Yulia Tymoshenko's involvement with corruption schemes Onishchenko deputy. This was written expert Pavel Nuss. He argues that Igor Shevchenko, whose interests lobbied the party "Motherland", was implicated in a corruption scandal, which was linked to Onishchenko.
As evidence, he Nuss published a document confirming party cooperation Tymoshenko and Shevchenko. It is stated that shortly after the scandal Shevchenko was stripped of his post of Minister of Ecology.
The expert believes that Tymoshenko helped Onishchenko, in exchange for the fact that the latter will provide financial support to the campaign.

What about this -
Yulia Tymoshenko: She's No Angel

....“Lazarenko received money from companies owned or controlled by Ukrianian [sic] business woman Yulia Tymoshenko … in exchange for which Lazarenko exercised his official authority in favor of Tymoshenko’s companies, and … Lazarenko failed to disclose to the people and government of Ukraine that he was receiving significant amounts of money from these companies.”....

She made billions and billions. But nobody, particularly the Yulia Post (Kyiv Post) ever write about this.

False Flags: The Kremlin’s Hidden Cyber Hand
The Islamic State’s hacking army doesn’t actually work for ISIS—It’s part of the secret Russian online espionage effort against the West
....However, there have long been whispers that the Cyber Caliphate is not what it claims to be. French intelligence examined the group closely after the TV5Monde attack and concluded that the hackers involved actually had nothing to do with the Islamic State. Rather, they were affiliates of a hacking collective known to be affiliated with the Kremlin, in particular APT 28, a notorious group that’s a secret arm of Moscow, according to Western security experts. In other words, the Cyber Caliphate is a Russian intelligence operation working through what spies term a cut-out....
