Reuters: Texan gets 10 years in U.S. prison for Russian tech export scheme

The former owner of a Houston company was sentenced on Thursday, July 21, to 10 years in prison after admitting that he operated as an unauthorized agent of the Russian government who exported sensitive microelectronics for its military's use, according to Reuters.

Alexander Fishenko, who pleaded guilty in September to engaging in a scheme that resulted in over $30 million in technology sales, largely to Russian military entities, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sterling Johnson in Brooklyn, Reuters wrote.

The sentence, which included an order that Fishenko, 50, forfeit over $500,000, was confirmed by the U.S. Justice Department. A lawyer for Fishenko did not immediately respond to a request for comment, Reuters said.

Fishenko, who founded Arc Electronics Inc in 1998, was among 11 people charged in 2012 in connection with what authorities said was an elaborate procurement network intended to evade federal export controls.

Five defendants including Fishenko pleaded guilty, while three former Arc Electronics employees including Fishenko's alleged right-hand man, Alexander Posobilov, were convicted at trial in October.

Prosecutors said Fishenko, a dual U.S.-Russian citizen, led a conspiracy to supply cutting-edge microelectronics that are frequently used in military systems to, among others, the Russian military via intermediary Russian companies.

Prosecutors said Fishenko and Posobilov hired and trained a cadre of Russian-speaking sales people to lie to vendors about why Arc was seeking these technologies and to falsify export records.

Seven of Arc's top 10 clients were specially authorized by the Russian Ministry of Defense to procure parts for its military, prosecutors said, and the company functioned as the U.S.-based arm for one Moscow-based client, Apex System LLC. Those who received Arc's products included a technical research unit for the Russian FSB internal security agency and Russian entities that built air and missile defense systems and that produced electronic warfare systems, prosecutors said....................

The Daily Vertical: Damned If You Do, Damned If You Don't

One of the most often-cited parts of Anatoly Kuznetsov's documentary novel Babi Yar is the testimony of Dina Pronicheva, an actress of the Kiev Puppet Theatre, and a survivor. She was one of those ordered to march to the ravine, to be forced to undress and then be shot. Jumping before being shot and falling on other bodies, she played dead in a pile of corpses. She held perfectly still while the Nazis continued to shoot the wounded or gasping victims. Although the SS had covered the mass grave with earth, she eventually managed to climb through the soil and escape. Since it was dark, she had to avoid the torches of the Nazis finishing off the remaining victims still alive, wounded and gasping in the grave. She was one of the very few survivors of the massacre and later related her horrifying story to Kuznetsov. At least 29 survivors are known.

In 2006, Yad Vashem and other Jewish organisations started a project to identify and name the Babi Yar victims, but so far only 10% have been identified. Yad Vashem has recorded the names of around 3,000 Jews killed at Babi Yar, as well as those of some 7,000 Jews from Kiev who were killed during the Holocaust.

Ilya Ponomaryov: Moscow church procession hatched by FSB

Ilya Ponomaryov, ex-deputy of Russia’s Duma and the only lawmaker who voted against Russia’s grab of Crimea, confirms the information by Ukraine’s SBU that Moscow’s special service FSB is behind the religious procession marching on Kyiv, Glavkom reports July 23.

“All the leaders of the Russian Orthodox Church have shoulder straps. That is why the procession is FSB doing,” Ponomaryov said.

The procession is organized by the pro-Moscow Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). It started on July 9 from Pochayiv, Ternopil, and on July 3 from Donetsk oblast. The procession is expected to come to Kyiv on July 27 for religious festivities.

Boryspil city council banned the procession to go via the city on its way to Kyiv, same as the authorities of Zhytomyr.
I wonder who was the person taking the video. Were they involved and wanted to have them busted for it?

Yes! The way the one on the right should be identified, by the way he walked.

Seeming the US FBI's involved, they have technology to hone in on the identity of either one or both of them. Also! They'll investigate on what woman might've had it out for Sheremet, unless this was a Putin planned assassination.
The killer was a woman: published video person planting explosives under Sheremet's car

Warning: This Is Not Cheese. In Russia, Watch What You Eat
....Watchdogs say dairy producers routinely added starch, chalk and soap to their milk. One-fifth of caviar brands contained bacteria linked to E. coli. Bread bakers were discovered to use “fifth-grade” wheat, the sort usually intended for cattle. More than half the sliced salmon on shop shelves has been judged unsafe.

Savchenko Calls For Reconciliation With Separatists, Sparks Outcry

Savchenko, who was elected to parliament while in prison, said in an interview broadcast July 21 on Ukraine’s Channel Five that Ukrainians must “ask for forgiveness.” Otherwise, she said, the violence that has gripped the country’s Donbas region since April 2014 would continue.

Her comments infuriated nationalist lawmakers and others, including Anton Herashchenko who also serves as an aide to the Interior Ministry.

“You, Nadia, are able to ask for forgiveness of...Russians who came to our lands to kill and rape, but we will never ask forgiveness of the occupiers and terrorists,” he wrote on his Facebook page. “We will, through clenched teeth, hold on and achieve the emancipation of our lands by any means!”

Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro become finalists of Eurovision 2017 host city contest

Kiev held it a few years' ago.
Odesa - there will be trouble there - from Putin - for sure.

Boryspil Council decided not to let the [Russian church] procession in the city
Friday, July 22, 2016, 18:36

Boryspil City Council at a special session on Friday banned the procession through the UOC MP Boryspil.
[MP = Moscow Patriach]
It is stated on page executive committee on Facebook.
Also this decision MPs ordered city police officers to ensure public order and safety of residents.
The report states that in the meeting attended by both supporters and opponents in order to march went through the city, including - clergy UOC (MP) and ATO members, volunteers and the community.
"The meeting was not a simple and emotional," - said in a statement.
As you know, earlier management of Ukraine stated that the participants are religious procession provocateurs acting in the interests of Russia.

Gerashchenko called Savchenko "Putin's Trojan horse"

MP from the "People's Front" Gerashchenko, Anton Savchenko Nadezhda criticized for saying that Ukraine "should apologize for Donbass".
He wrote in facebook.
"You Nadia, can and should ask for forgiveness from Givi of Motorola or other Russians who come to our land to kill and rape; we will not apologize to the invaders and terrorists !" - Wrote Gerashchenko.
"Why did no one paid attention, that no one tribunal over Sentsov or KOLCHENKO not conducted live broadcast? And at the same time, what with all the trials Nadia Savchenko Russian judge allowed to conduct live broadcasts of all television stations that wanted it? Now it seems of course - the consciousness of Ukrainian Putin dropped a "Trojan horse" - said Gerashchenko.

My opinion -
Savchenko has turned out to be a disaster.
She calls for negotiations with the puppet dictators in Donbass, and for Ukraine to apologize for the war.
She is still popular, but that popularity is waning rapidly.
Tymoshenko will be glad. Savchenko is theoretically a Batkivshina deputy, and is trying now to push herself to be the next president.
But many now wonder - precisely "who is she?" And ask many other questions...
observation -
She's on tv most nights... pushing her popularity?
I know she wants the deaths to be reduced, but... the whole world is trying to work with Ukraine for this.
You can't just go against everything you have stood for, and turn round and have a cup of vodka with Zakharchenko the drunk electrician.
(Savchenko, like the DNR boss, is known for her liking of serious alcohol. )
