Trump, Putin: no hugging and kissing to happen. Hot conflict likely – Portnikov

Trump, Putin: no hugging and kissing to happen. Hot conflict likely – Portnikov
Many Ukrainians and Europeans keep scaring themselves with the probability of Trump surrendering to Putin Ukraine, Syria, and Europe. Interestingly, what will he get in exchange?, Vitali Portnikov, the leading political scholar says in Newsru.ua Nov. 12.

“Let’s remember that it is Russia that is waging the war against America in Ukraine, not vice versa. Russia is bursting to prove to America that it is a superpower with its backyard (Ukraine) no one is allowed to enter.

The thuggish Putin’s regime has no other means to prove its effectiveness but to demonstrate its grandeur. Because the economy is on the rocks, the government is corrupt, the populace is getting poor, the oil is getting cheap (and now, thanks to Trump) is sinking more. The only ace up Russia’s sleeve is the demonstration of grandeur.

“How can a corrupt and poor country (Upper Volta with nukes) pull its weight on America? Yes, by humiliating America, by proving that the United States can do little while Russia can do everything. By showing that Russia can grab Crimea, annex Donbas, bomb Aleppo – and get away with it,” Portnikov says.

“But the only thing Trump cannot allow Putin to do is being humiliated.

That is why there won’t be any kissing and hugging when Putin meets Trump. Meanwhile, there is a serious probability of a hot conflict between Russia and USA , the expert says.

Trump-Putin alliance sparks diplomatic crisis as British ministers demand assurances from U.S. over Russia

Trump-Putin alliance sparks diplomatic crisis as British ministers demand assurances from U.S. over Russia

Britain is facing a diplomatic crisis with the U.S. over Donald Trump's plans to forge an alliance with Vladimir Putin and bolster the Syrian regime, The Telegraph reported.

In a significant foreign policy split, officials admitted that Britain will have some "very difficult" conversations with the President-elect in coming months over his approach to Russia, according to The Telegraph. It comes after Trump used his first interviews since winning the U.S. election to indicate that he will withdraw support for rebels in Syria and thank Vladimir Putin for sending him a "beautiful" letter. Trump said that he will instead join forces with Russia and focus on defeating Isil. He has previously said it would be "nice" if the U.S. and Russia could work together to "knock the hell out of Isil," the publication wrote. His views are in stark contrast with those of Theresa May, who has accused President Assad's regime of perpetrating "atrocious violence" and said that the long-term future of Syria must be "without Assad". Boris Johnson, the Foreign Secretary, has accused Russia of perpetrating war crimes over the deaths of hundreds of civilians, according to the report................

Dutch MPs extend deadline on Ukraine deal

Post by Admin on Sun Nov 13, 2016 11:42 am

Dutch MPs extend deadline on Ukraine deal

A majority in the Dutch parliament has given prime minister Mark Rutte more time to negotiate with his European counterparts on how to accommodate a popular rejection of an EU-Ukraine treaty.

MPs said on Tuesday (8 November) they would give Rutte until after an EU summit in Brussels in mid-December to find a solution.

Initially, Rutte had been given a 1 November deadline by MPs.

But Rutte's centre-right Liberals, his coalition partner Labour, and several smaller parties gave him extra time. Opposition MP Kees Verhoeven said he had supported the motion “grudgingly”.

In April, the EU-Ukraine association agreement was rejected in a Dutch referendum with 61.1 percent of the votes.

The vote was non-binding, but because the voter turnout of 32.2 percent surpassed a required threshold of 30 percent, the Dutch political establishment promised to somehow take the results into account.

Officially, the Dutch voted to reject the parliament bill that would lead to ratification of the treaty, which has now been put on hold. All other 27 member states have ratified the deal.

Rutte will seek a legally binding declaration from his EU counterparts explaining the details of the deal...........

Moldovans elect pro-Moscow Igor Dodon as president (Financial Times)

Setback for Brussels with win for candidate threatening to derail EU co-operation

Moldova has elected as president a pro-Russian politician who has threatened to derail co-operation with the EU, in another setback for Brussels in eastern Europe.

Russia Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin: Withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria is “Ukraine’s provocation”

Russia Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin: Withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria is “Ukraine’s provocation”

“The withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria is Ukraine’s provocative plan since Kiev is not eligible to take such decisions”, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin told TASS in an interview.

The Russian diplomat stressed that the Russian troops were deployed to the Moldova’s breakaway region in accordance to international agreements and that the armed forces will remain there “as long as it is necessary to maintain security”.

Karasin blames Ukrainian authorities for the “crazy ideas that Ukraine comes up with from time to time”, that “inflict the situation in Moldova as well as in Ukraine”.

Last week, the Defense Minister of Moldova, Anatol Șalaru, declared that came to an agreement with the Ukrainian Defense Minister, Stepan Poltorak, to prepare a “green corridor” for the withdrawal of the Russian troops and munitions from Transnistria.

The separatist leader of Transnistria, Evgeny Shevchuk, showed discontent towards the plan, saying that it is “inadmissible and non-constructive”.

Russia’s Deputy Prime-Minister, Dmitry Rogozin, seemed to be stressed by the fact that Kyiv and Chișinău “forgot about coordinating with Moscow and Tiraspol” the proposed withdrawal plan.
