Lifting sanctions in exchange for Russia's nuclear weapons cut would mean surrendering Ukraine, - Brok
Lifting sanctions against Russia, imposed by the U.S. over the annexation of Crimea and aggression against Ukraine, in exchange for shrinking Moscow's nuclear arsenal would signal readiness to trade the freedom of another country.
Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, representative of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Elmar Brok told DW, Censor.NET reports.
The deal would suggest giving up Ukraine in exchange for cutting Moscow's nuclear arsenal, the MEP said, commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal voiced in an interview with The Times prior to his inauguration.
Brok said it would be interesting to follow the debate on the matter in the U.S. Senate with the participation of Senators Corker and McCain known for their hard line on Russia.
He also noted that Russian sanctions were introduced to further the implementation of the Minsk deal and can be lifted only after all modalities are fulfilled.

Russia to reinforce its troops near Ukraine's border due to Donbas situation, - Russian Defense Minister Shoygu
Russia’s Southern Military District troops need to be strengthened over the situation in southeast Ukraine and the activity of international terrorist groups in the North Caucasus.
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu said at the ministry's board meeting on Wednesday, Censor.NET reports citing TASS.
"It is important to note that the military and political situation in the south-western strategic direction remains unstable. It is primarily negatively affected by the situation in southeast Ukraine and the activity of international terrorist organizations and groupings on the territory of the North Caucasus," the defense minister said.
"In these conditions, work has to be continued to improve the combat structure of the district's troops, hire contract servicemen and equip troops with new types of armament and military hardware and to develop military infrastructure," the defense minister said.
Last year, the Southern Military District's combat capabilities were boosted by Russians by 10 percent, including by means of continued hire of contract servicemen and the arrival of new types of armaments and the improvement of the stationing system, the defense minister said.

First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Herashchenko says the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has passed a resolution on the persecution of Ukrainians in Russia prepared by the Ukrainian side.
Censor.NET reports quoting Herashchenko's Facebook page.
"The PACE has adopted the resolution Attacks against journalists and media freedom in Europe prepared by our colleague Volodymyr Ariev. The resolution includes a clear requirement for the Russian Federation to release Oleh Sentsov, Roman Sushchenko, and Mykola Semena.
"It is a pity I wasn't able to speak during the debate, although I рфв registered in advance. I planned to speak about the Kremlin's captives and the hybrid information warfare waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the European democracy. It is important that the European Parliament, being aware of the level of threats faced by the EU, has adopted a resolution to counter Russian propaganda," Herashchenko said.
According to her, Olena Sotnyk was the only Ukrainian representative who got the opportunity to speak.
"She raised the issue of global and common threats in the context of hybrid information warfare, drew attention to pseudo-journalist TV channels, in particular Russia Today, which distort the reality.
"We congratulate Volodymyr Ariev on the report and demand that Russia release Ukrainian journalists," Herashchenko summed up.
