Sun Nov 19, 2017 12:55 pm
The European Union adjusted its budget for 2018 and reduced the amount of financial assistance to Turkey, which was paid under the EU candidate support program.
This is reported by DW.
Financing has been reduced by 105 million euros compared to the previous draft budget from the European Commission. 70 million euros will be allocated only if the EU representatives will see in Turkey "progress in adhering to the principles of the rule of law."
It is noted that "the EU does not see an improvement in the rule of law in the country."
Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced her intention to halt talks with Turkey on EU membership.
President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in turn, said that the country no longer needs EU membership , but negotiations on unilateral adherence will not stop.
