The US ambassador to Russia reminds people that the Crimea is Ukrainian

on Wed Dec 13, 2017 1:50 pm
The US ambassador to Russia reminds people that the Crimea is Ukrainian

US Ambassador to Russia John Huntsman stated that anyone familiar with international law knows that Crimea is Ukraine

This is stated in a video of the US Embassy in Russia, published on Twitter.

"Any person familiar with international law can answer this question, Crimea is Ukraine. To improve the Russian-American relations, the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity is absolutely necessary," the ambassador replied to the question of the user @Cakner "who owns" Crimea.

The American authorities are not going to abolish anti-Russian sanctions , as long as the aggressor country does not return the Donbas and the Crimea under the control of Ukraine.

US Assistant Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Europe and Eurasia Wess Mitchell said Washington was prepared to tighten sanctions against Russia during a meeting with President Petro Poroshenko.

Before that, Tillerson has approved a list of Russian companies involved in the intelligence and defense sector, which will be subject to US sanctions.

Stimulating reforms in Ukraine is a priority for Tilerserson, the US Department of State

Stimulating reforms in Ukraine is a priority for Tilerserson, the US Department of State

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson urges the Ukrainian government to fulfill its previous pledges on the creation of an anti-corruption court and to pursue other reforms.

According to Tsensor.NET, referring to Interfax-Ukraine , officials of the State Department on International Relations reported this at a Senate Committee hearing.

Assistant Secretary of State Wess Mitchell said that it was a huge priority for US Secretary of State Tillerson, as he spoke repeatedly, answering the question whether the State Department raised the issue of blocking energy and anti-corruption reform in Ukraine, in particular, the persecution of NABU and the Anti-corruption Committee of the Verkhovna Rada.

"We could not even dream of such progress that they have achieved in such a short time. Secretary of State Tillerson has made this a priority - involving Ukrainians in the path of reform," he said.

"Reform not only in lighter industries, but also to introduce more complex structural reforms, especially in the creation of an anti-corruption court and energy reform, in particular on gas tariffs." Both of these steps are critically important to continue the IMF's remittance. I have discussed these issues on several occasions. a question with Mr. Poroshenko, with Groisman, Minister Klimkin, Mr. Parubei and others, and we are coordinating our cooperation with the IMF, so that our positions are agreed, "said the Assistant Secretary of State.

On November 29, in the evening, the press service of the State Migration Ministry informed that the SBU detained the agent of NABU, the son of the ex-"regional" Boyarsky, when attempting to give a bribe to the deputy head of the State Migration Pamahova.

NABU, in turn, stated: "The GPU and the SBU illegally intervened in a special operation." In addition, the SBU conducted searches at NABU.

And Deputy Head of the State Migration Pimakhov, telling details of the special operation, said: It turned out that Titenkov was Boyarsky and agent NABU with special equipment.

Trump signed a law prohibiting the use of Kaspersky Lab programs

on Wed Dec 13, 2017 3:03 pm
Trump signed a law prohibiting the use of Kaspersky Lab programs

American President Donald Trump has signed a law prohibiting the use of Kaspersky Lab software in government agencies of the United States because it can be used by Russia for espionage.

The law provides for the removal of a program from government computers within 90 days, reports Reuters.

The prohibition on using Kaspersky Lab's software is part of the defense policy legislation. The law applies to both civilian and military networks.

Democrat Jannah Shaheen, a Democrat Senator, has begun appeals to remove this software from government computers, adding that company software is a "serious risk" for US national security.

Recall, the US Senate has supported the ban on using Kaspersky Lab's products by the government.

On September 12, it was reported that Kaspersky Lab closed the United States unit that cooperated with the government.

On September 15, the founder of Kaspersky Labs was asked to give evidence in the US Congress. Later, the hearing was postponed indefinitely.

The US Congress suggests that Kaspersky Lab, a Russian company established in Russia, may be controlled by the Kremlin.

PGO: 9,167 officials detained for bribe-taking this year alone

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko says the law enforcers have detained 9,167 corrupt officials in 2017.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to NewsOne, Ukraine’s senior law enforcement official said on air of ICTV.

"This year showed result exceeding all previous years. Jointly with our colleagues from the Interior Ministry and the SBU, we detained 9,167 bribe-takers red-handed. The indictments against 2,855 corrupt officials were referred to the courts which convicted 1,534 of them," he said.

The prosecutor general noted that the names of the majority of corrupt officials were not well known but the number of detainees showed the effectiveness of the law enforcement agencies.

According to him, only 100 of the detained corrupt officials were actually sentenced to several years in prison. Nevertheless, he believes such result to be unprecedented.

Lutsenko earlier said that the PGO was willing to enlist the support of British Scotland Yard to investigate the case of Saakashvili.

Prosecutor General Lutsenko: “We also wiretapped Russian FSB officer overseeing Kurchenko”

on Wed Dec 13, 2017 3:12 pm
Prosecutor General Lutsenko: “We also wiretapped Russian FSB officer overseeing Kurchenko”

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) jointly wiretapped not only runaway oligarch Serhii Kurchenko, Rukh Novykh Syl party leader Saakashvili, his associate Severion Dangadze, but also an officer of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

This was said by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko on air of Freedom of Speech TV show, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

Commenting on the media reports about an SBU agent in charge of intercepting Kurchenko’s phone conversations who has allegedly defected to Russia leaving the PGO without some hard evidence making the recent developments look like a special operation of the FSB, Lutsenko said: "I reject this version. It’s a rather obtuse way to defend those whom we recorded receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars and euros and making cooperation arrangements with Kurchenko and his FSB supervisors. We were intercepting conversations of the FSB officer, Kurchenko, Saakashvili's associate Severion Dangadze, and later Saakashvili personally called Kurchenko using his own cell phone, which we have recorded."
The prosecutor general once again confirmed PGO’s willingness to engage foreign experts in examination of these wiretappings.

"We have got the device that was used for wiretapping, two witnesses who transferred funds under our supervision, the wiretappings. Both technical and international examinations can be conducted in conjunction with foreign experts. That will be sufficient for a serious pre-trial investigation," he said.

Lutsenko added that this was only "the first stage of the foiled plan of the FSB called “the Russian winter in Kyiv.”

“I know what I'm talking about. And I will come to the parliament in due time to foil its second stage. This will definitely happen," he added.

On Dec. 5, the law enforcers detained Saakashvili on charges of assisting crime ring members. His supporters blocked off the paddy wagon with the detained politician inside and later released him. During the search in Saakashvili's apartment, he went up to the roof of the house and was apprehended by the law enforcers there.

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko later said that runaway oligarch Serhii Kurchenko funded Saakashvili's activities in Ukraine.

Early Dec. 6, a clash between law enforcers and supporters of the former Odesa region governor took place outside the Ukrainian parliament early Dec. 5 when police tried to storm the tent camp in order to locate and detain Saakashvili.
The police apprehended Saakashvili in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district late Dec. 8. He was charged under part 2 of article 256 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (providing assistance to crime ring members and concealment of their criminal activity) punishable by 5 to 10 years in prison.

Being placed in Kyiv-based detention center, the politician went on an indefinite hunger strike.

Saakashvili walked free from the courtroom late Dec. 11 as the court imposed no pre-trial restriction on him.

Poland is ready to supply liquefied natural gas to Ukraine

on Wed Dec 13, 2017 3:15 pm
Poland is ready to supply liquefied natural gas to Ukraine

Poland is ready to supply liquefied gas to Ukraine through a gas terminal in Polish Swinoujscie

This was announced by the president of Poland Andrzej Dud, reports Espresso .TV .
"We are open to proposals for the supply of liquefied natural gas to Ukraine through a gas terminal in Swinoujscie, and it is open for talks with the authorities of Ukraine at the level of the relevant departments and economic actors," Duda said.

The Polish president stressed that Poland seeks to cooperate with Ukraine to ensure a common energy security.

"We talked about Ukraine's support through investments in gas interconnector construction, this task is being implemented, there is close cooperation between Poland and Ukraine, and we realized this investment to ensure energy security not only for ourselves, but also for others," Dudd said.

The gas terminal in Swinoujscie, intended for the reception of liquefied gas tankers, began operating in June 2016. Its capacity is 5 billion cubic meters of gas per year, but it can be increased to 7.5 billion cubic meters. On June 25, 2016, the terminal received the first tanker, the Arctic Princess, from the Norwegian port of Melkoya, which delivered 140,000 cubic meters (84 million cubic meters after regasification).

On June 8, 2017, the terminal received the first batch of gas from the US - the Clean Ocean tanker delivered 162,000 cubic meters of liquefied gas.

Recall that in September, the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, Witold Vaschikovsky, said that by 2022, Poland wants to completely abandon Russian gas , in particular, due to the expansion of the terminal in Swinoujscie.

A 12-year-old girl, who was searched by police for several days, killed her own mother for refusing to go to school, - Abroshkin. PHOTOS

Mother, in a gust of anger, killed her 12-year-old daughter because she did not want to go to school.

According to Tsensor.NET, the first deputy head of the National Police, Vyacheslav Abroshkin, Chief of Criminal Police, reported on his Facebook page.
"For four days, the police of one of the central regions were looking for a girl of 12 years old, which, according to her parents, went to school in the morning and disappeared," said Abroshkin.

According to him, the girl was found dead 5 kilometers from the house with numerous injuries.

He clarified that in the evening of yesterday, on the basis of evidence gathered on suspicion of murder, the girl's mother was arrested.

"Everything turned out to be simply banal. My husband went to work, on the way led the younger child to a kindergarten, and the eldest daughter was with her mother. The girl was asked to stay at home and not go to school, and the mother on the contrary insisted that she still go to school. As a result, in the gust of a sudden fierce mad mother killed a child, and then took it out and left it in a wasteland. This is a terrible tragedy, "said Abroshkin.

A number of expert assessments are planned, including the conduct of a psychiatric examination of the suspect.

UK turns to Russian project targeted by sanctions for gas supply

UK turns to Russian project targeted by sanctions for gas supply

Vessel with LNG from Yamal site is diverted to Britain after North Sea pipeline shuts

British homes are set to be heated over the new year with gas from a Russian project targeted by US sanctions, as the shutdown of a key North Sea pipeline slashes domestic output and sends utilities and traders scrambling for supplies.

The first tanker of liquefied natural gas from the Yamal LNG project in Russia’s Arctic, which was opened by President Vladimir Putin last week, is making its way to the Isle of Grain import terminal in Kent as UK gas prices soar.

The shipment of the super-chilled cargo to the UK, which was originally expected to go to Asia, will be cheered in the Kremlin, where the Yamal LNG project has been held up as evidence that it can withstand western sanctions. Moscow has insisted that Europe will remain reliant on Russia for gas.

The UK government has taken a tough line on Russian sanctions since Moscow first intervened in Ukraine nearly four years ago, and Theresa May, prime minister, has stepped up criticisms more recently, accusing Moscow of meddling in elections and attempting to “weaponise information” to undermine the west.

Bringing in the tanker will highlight questions about the UK’s energy strategy and the security of supplies, as it follows the shutdown of a three-decade-old pipeline this week that has cut off 12 per cent of gas from the UK’s portion of the North Sea, sending prices to four-year highs and sparking fears of potential shortages.

While it is not unusual for the UK to import small amounts of Russian gas that has come by pipeline through other European countries, the scheduled arrival on December 28 of the Christophe de Margerie LNG tanker will be the first delivery to arrive by ship, with the loading of the tanker personally overseen by Mr Putin last week.

While UK and EU sanctions do not directly target Yamal LNG, they have imposed other sanctions that cut off Russian energy companies from finance or technology for certain projects, levied after Moscow’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.....................
