Russia is trying to influence the results of the vote of the American Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, which defines the winners of the Oscar Award.
This is stated in the newspaper The New York Times on February 21.
It is reported that the Kremlin wants to prevent the victory of two documentaries that "cause the wrath of President Vladimir Putin."
This is about the film "The Last People in Aleppo" by Syrian director Feras Fayyad about the war in Syria and the investigation of American Brian Fogel "Ikar" about the Russian state doping program.
According to Fayyad, his work, as well as members of the crew, are under the ghost of criticism of Russian mass-media attacks and Internet trolls.
It is noted that Vogel was forced to four times change the location of his office, use different phones and carefully conceal the location of the protagonist of the film-the former head of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory, Grigory Rodchenkov.
Vice President of the Carnegie Endowment, Andrew Weiss, explained to the media that "dirty media campaigns using social network attacks are a standard operating procedure used by Russia against their imagined enemies."
