The United States and the Czech Republic will boycott the Biathlon World Cup in Russia Empty The United States and the Czech Republic will boycott the Biathlon World Cup in Russia

Sat Feb 24, 2018 11:10 am
The Biathlon Association of the USA and the Czech Republic announced the boycott of the March World Cup on Biathlon, which will be held in Russian Tyumen.

The statement of Americans says that Russia does not comply with the Code of the World Anti-Doping Agency, and athletes who come to the country are in danger.

The Biathlon Federation of the United States also considers it unacceptable to host the World Cup in Tyumen.

Last December, the Canadian team reported on a boycott of competitions in Tyumen. Biathlonists said they did not trust the Russian anti-doping system.

In February, the International Union of Biathlonists left Russia the right to conduct World Cup stages.

On December 5, 2017, the Russian team was dismissed from participating in the 2018 Olympic Games in South Korea through a doping scandal. Russian athletes, whose blood did not detect banned substances, were admitted to competitions under a neutral flag.

Subsequently, in the doping test of the Russian bobsleetic Nadezhda Sergeeva discovered a forbidden drug trimethazidine. The Sports Arbitration Court disqualified the athlete and canceled its result at the Olympics. She together with partner Anastasiya Kocherzova took 12th place during the bobsleigh competition.

The doping test gave a positive result to the Russian curlingist Alexander Krushelnytsky. The Sports Arbitration Court deprived Krushelnytsky and his partner of a bronze medal. The award in the double-mix will now be received by Norwegian athletes.
