US Senator Graham says existing Russia sanctions not working, new ones being developed

US Senator Graham says existing Russia sanctions not working, new ones being developed

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who sits in the Senate's Armed Services Committee, says Kremlin is still trying to interfere in the upcoming election in the U.S., therefore, he is "going to come out with sanctions from hell on Russia."

As reported by Censor.NET citing RealClear Politics media outlet, Sen. Lindsey Graham joined Fox News' Anchor Maria Bartiromo to discuss U.S. foreign policy issues including North Korea, China, Iran, and Russia.

Asked whether he wanted to see sanctions put against Russia, the senator said: "One hundred percent. I will give President Trump credit for being tougher on Russian than Obama. That is without a doubt clear. Army, the Ukraine, expelling diplomats, imposing sanctions, tougher than Obama did.

"But it's not working, Maria. They're still trying to interfere in our election. This week was good news for me in two ways. The president met with the National Security Council on Friday, ordering them to harden our electoral infrastructure against Russia and other actors for 2018. That's presidential leadership I've been looking for," he said.

"I've talked to homeland security folks, I've talked to everybody in the government. I think a good package is coming out of the administration to protect the 2018 election. Pompeo told Menendez that he would work with myself and Senator Menendez and other groups to put new sanctions on the table for Russia. I'm going to come out with sanctions from hell on Russia. Because what we're doing is not working," Sen. Graham stressed.

Russia sees no sense in holding the next summit in the "Norman format" to implement the decisions on the breeding of forces and means in the Donbas - Lavrov

on Mon Jul 30, 2018 10:07 am
Russia sees no sense in holding the next summit in the "Norman format" to implement the decisions on the breeding of forces and means in the Donbas - Lavrov

In Moscow, it does not make sense to hold a regular summit of the participants of the "Norman Four" until the agreements on dividing forces in the Donbass, Stanislau Luhansk, have been fulfilled.

As informs Censor.NET with reference to Interfax-Ukraine , Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

Speaking at the forum "Territory of Meaning" in Vladimir oblast, Lavrov said that along with the chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov recently visited Berlin and Paris, where he was invited to hold a regular meeting in the "Norman format" at the highest level.

He recalled that in October 2016 at the Berlin summit an agreement was reached on the withdrawal of heavy weapons, as well as the disbanding of forces and assets in the Donbass, starting with three pilot sites - Petrovskoye, Zolotye and Stanitsa Lugansk.

"So far, such an agreement is not just abstract, but a very specific agreement of the first persons of the" Norman Four "states on three specific settlements will not be fulfilled, I believe that holding a regular summit will not even be very good for the reputation of the" Norman format, "- stressed S. Lavrov.

He also complained that for almost three years "there can not be put on paper such a famous thing as" the Steinmaier formula."

Manafort in 2014 worked with the future mayor of Kiev Klitschko

on Mon Jul 30, 2018 10:15 am
Manafort in 2014 worked with the future mayor of Kiev Klitschko

Former Donald Trump campaign leader Paul Manafort in 2014 worked with the acting mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko.

Censor.NET reports , referring to the BBC, as evidenced by documents from the evidence base against a political technologist who assembled the office of the American Special Prosecutor Robert Müeller. The prosecution has handed several hundred pages of documents to the court, some of which concern the "Ukrainian period" from 2005 to 2014.

"According to the documents, three months after the shooting on Independence Square in 2014, Paul Manafort sent his assistant Konstantin Kilimnik a great presentation and a plan for restructuring the Kyiv City State Administration, intended to be the initiator of the"VK", that is, Mr. Manafort could advise Vitali Klitschko and the time of his election campaign, and already on the post of mayor", - said in a statement.

Vitali Klitschko himself, according to the BBC, said that the political technologist really offered their services, but cooperation did not take place.

According to Manafort's plan, the capital's administration had to work two teams: the political technologist and the mayor.

The first steps of the mayor were: work with the press, the creation of a media base, establishing relations with key media owners, who will communicate the theses of the VK mayor.

Also in plans - the preparation of messages and speeches of the mayor, the creation of a "military room" for him, a campaign in social networks, blogging, and more.

The second phase of the plan covered the period from May 26 to June 21. It contained press conferences, calls to European leaders and a schedule of events, networking.

Manafort also offered the following measures to Kyiv's mayor:

- 100% tax return on income paid in Kyiv to the city budget
- increased fines for violation of parking rules
- subordination of heads of rayon administrations of the mayor's capital
- to audit utility companies
- to dismiss and repair the building of the city hall
- to transfer the city council to one of office centers or place it in one of the district administrations.

Also, the political technologist proposed to clearly divide the powers between departments to combat corruption, reduce bureaucratic procedures, unite the post of mayor and head of the KSCA and reduce the number of deputies.

In comments, Vitali Klitschko acknowledged that in 2014 Manafort's company really offered its consulting services.

"Since the name Manafort was known in this area, they talked with them, and then they prepared some presentation - test items," said the mayor of Kiev.

According to him, in these proposals were general moments, "there is nothing archinovogo that we did not know".

"Therefore, we can say that the proposed cooperation was over and did not begin," concluded Klitschko.

Recall that charges against Manafort were filed in bank and tax fraud in order to hide a million dollars received from the government of Viktor Yanukovych. The 69-year-old Manafort is in custody, after prosecutors have been able to prove that he was trying to influence the witnesses in his case. In addition to Virginia, he is also waiting for a court in Washington. There he is accused of not registering as a foreign agent while working for a foreign government. Paul Manafort denies all accusations.

Earlier on July 23, Judge Ellis also allowed prosecutors to secure the immunity of five witnesses in the case.

Russian hackers attacked a laboratory in Switzerland that analyzed "Novichok"

Russian hackers attacked a laboratory in Switzerland that analyzed "Novichok"

The Swiss laboratory Spiez, which specializes in the prevention of chemical, biological and nuclear threats, was probably attacked by a group of hackers associated with Russia

This is reported by the Swiss edition Blick.

The Berne Laboratory in Canton probably has become a target for hackers because of its role in investigating the poisoning of Sergei and Julia Skripal in the British city of Salisbury. The laboratory was involved in the examination of the neuroparalytic substance that was used for poisoning.

Hackers from the Sandworm group associated with the Russian government were represented by members of the laboratory's organizing committee and distributed a document with instructions on the upcoming chemical weapons conference scheduled for September.

The Word document contained only information about the conference. The file was installed malware.

Cybercriminals used a false e-mail address and targeted chemical weapons experts invited to the conference.

"Somebody acted on behalf of the laboratory. We immediately informed the conference that the document was not ours and pointed to danger," said Kurt Menger of the Federal Civil Protection Department.

According to him, the crack of hackers caused limited harm. "The laboratory itself did not register any data outflow," Mücher confirmed.

This year, hackers have already attacked several organizations in Switzerland. The Federal Intelligence Service reported internal attacks on "various international sports federations," including the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne.

Previously, Russian hackers attacked leading media companies in Germany.

Russia is a great power, for example in Syria, without it, - President of Croatia Grabar-Kitarovich

Russia is a great power, for example in Syria, without it, - President of Croatia Grabar-Kitarovich

Croatian President Colinda Grabar-Kitarovich said that issues on the bilateral agenda were enough to invite Putin to Croatia.

She reported this in an interview with the Russian edition of Kommersant, informs Censor. NET.

"I invited him to come when he was in Sochi last year and he repeated his invitation in Moscow, this would be the first state visit of the Russian president to Zagreb, and I think it's time for him. We are very waiting for Vladimir Putin and the attitude of Croats to Russia could be seen during the championship (World Cup 2018, which took place in the Russian Federation - Ed.)", - said Grabar-Kitarovich.

She added that Croatia, as a member of the EU and NATO, adheres to the same values, principles and common policies in a number of areas, and supports a two-way approach to Russia.

"We insist on respect for international law and advocate the implementation of the Minsk accords with Ukraine. On the other hand, the second part of this approach is to maintain dialogue with Russia. It is inevitable, Russia is a great power, and in the hottest parts of the world, for example in Syria, without Russia can not do", - says the president of Croatia.

Moldovan President Dodon opposed the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria

Moldovan President Dodon opposed the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria

President of Moldova Igor Dodon opposed the withdrawal of Russian troops from the unrecognized Transnistrian republic.

Censor.NET informs about this, referring to the press service of the Moldovan president.

"Despite all the criticisms, I would strongly advocate preserving the peacekeeping operation on the banks of the Dniester.

I am convinced that until a sustainable and viable political solution to the Transnistrian problem is found, until the mechanism for maintaining peace and stability in the post-conflict period is agreed, only populists or provocateurs can only talk about the elimination of a functioning peacekeeping operation, the aim of which is to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova" - said in the address Dodon.

According to the Moldovan president, thanks to peacekeepers for 26 years, "the peaceful atmosphere has been restored, conditions for the political process of negotiations have been created."

We remind you that on June 22, 2018, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution "On the complete and unconditional withdrawal of foreign military forces from the territory of the Republic of Moldova." For approval of the resolution voted 64 countries, against - 15, abstained 83 delegations.

Erdogan said Turkey would not change its position on the arrest of an American pastor

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his government "would not retreat under US pressure" in the arrest of American pastor Andrew Branson.

This was reported by Reuters.

"We will not retreat if we are threatened with sanctions. They should not forget that they lose their true partner, "Erdogan said.

Earlier, Foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu said that his country" would not tolerate US threats" in connection with the arrest of an American pastor.

US President Donald Trump said the United States would impose "big sanctions" against Turkey because of the holding of Ankara by American pastor Andrew Branson, accused of terrorism and espionage.

Branson has been working in Turkey for more than 20 years. He was detained in 2016 and accused of terrorism and espionage. Ankara claims that Branson allegedly assisted the groups that were behind the organization of the military coup in Truvia in July 2016.

On July 25, 2018, Branson was taken under house arrest. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Turkey should release him and release him to his homeland.

The United States has supported Russia in the WTO in a case against Ukraine

on Mon Jul 30, 2018 10:43 pm
The United States has supported Russia in the WTO in a case against Ukraine

The United States supported Russia's position in the WTO dispute over blocking Moscow's Ukrainian transit.

This is reported by Politico.

According to the publication, the dispute between Ukraine and Russia is of interest to the United States in the context of the introduction by US President Donald Trump of duties on steel and aluminum.

The fact is that Russia closed the transit for Ukrainian exporters allegedly for reasons of national security. Article 21 of the Agreement on Tariffs and Trade allows WTO members to impose restrictions that violate their obligations due to the need to protect national security.

Based on this article, Trump administration introduced a duty on steel and aluminum.

"Despite the fact that the United States supports Ukraine in a larger territorial dispute, the United States and Russia argue that the WTO has no right to consider a case concerning transit restrictions," the newspaper notes.

Recall that on July 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended the restrictions on the transit of Ukrainian cargoes to the countries of Central Asia for 6 months.

Donald Trump introduced import duties on steel (25%) and aluminum (10%). The orders signed by the president came into force on March 23. Mexico, Canada and the EU were temporarily excluded from the list of countries.

On May 31, Trump canceled temporary exceptions for steel and aluminum from the EU, Canada, and Mexico. The EU has been told to introduce countermeasures.

The European Union and Canada were preparing to address the issue of the introduction of US customs duties on steel and aluminum through the mechanisms of the World Trade Organization. In particular, countries have already sent their complaints there.

However, on July 26, Trump informed that he would postpone the decision to impose a 25% duty on the import of European cars to the country at the time of trade negotiations.
