News -
Reading that Putin is increasing the number of attacks by his troops. 109 attacks on Ukrainian positions yesterday.
The number was nearer 30 or 40 a couple of weeks' ago. On Thursday also the figure was also over the 100 mark - for the first time in several months.
Perhaps new tactics by Putin. Seeing how many attacks he can do in a day before the west reacts and increases sanctions again.
ATO Update at 1300 -
2 soldiers killed, 14 injured. Highest figures for some time. Putin is stepping up the war again, it would appear.

Weather -
Comfortable. 15 Now at 0900. High in the mid-20s / 70s. Blue sky now, but there was a nice bit of rain yesterday evening. Good for the crops.

Grad -
I have just returned from a trip along the main road leading west out of Kiev, towards Zhitomir.
I saw 4 Grad launchers travelling along the road, towards Kiev.
Possible they have just been repaired - there are lots of repair facilities in the Zhitomir area. Or maybe they have been used on a training exercise.
They were covered up at the back, but unmistakeable profile.
Probably heading east towards the frontline against Russia. There was some talk that Putin would launch a major offensive on August 1st.
Certainly the amount of shelling has increased substantially in the past few days.

More on the Litvinyenko enquiry in London -

Russia's 'Tin Pot Despot' Putin behind Spy's London Murder — Inquiry Told [in english]
Russian President Vladimir Putin is a "tin pot despot" who, with Kremlin "cronies," was behind the 2006 poisoning murder of ex-KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko in London, the lawyer for his widow said on Friday....
He said tests of the sink in the bathroom of Kovtun's room at the Millennium Hotel revealed quantities of polonium which could only be achieved by direct contact with the rare isotope....
The lawyer said that on the very day back in March when the inquiry was hearing evidence that he argued clearly showed Kovtun's involvement, Putin was awarding a medal of honour for services to the Motherland to Lugovoy.
It was a "menacing gesture of support," Emmerson said, designed to intimidate the inquiry.
"It was a crass and clumsy gesture from an increasingly isolated tin pot despot, a morally deranged authoritarian who was at that very moment clinging desperately onto political power in the face of international sanctions and a rising chorus of international condemnation," he said.

Russian opposition: to resolve the [Ukraine] conflict with Russia is possible only by force of arms (Pulse of Kiev)
Most Russians are not willing and not ready to fight with Ukraine.
"In Russia, in fact, 85% of the population does not want war. Only around 15% of the most radical are ready to fight. Of course, there are people with imperial thinking, loving just waving their fists. Fighting is still going on Donbass, because the Russians still think that protect Ukraine from the occupants. It is a dominant point of view ", - explained Ponomarev.
According to him, Russians feel like defenders and saviors, because Kremlin propaganda so successful.

Further to the story above about the Russian terrorists getting nuclear materials, and building a "dirty bomb", here in English in The Times -

Ukraine rebels ‘building dirty bomb’ with Russian scientists

The report draws on hacked emails between rebels and intercepted radio communications, as well as a field agent’s findings. It claims that Russian specialists have withdrawn radioactive industrial waste from a secure bunker at the Donetsk state chemical plant and moved it to a rebel military base, where it can be combined with explosives to create a devastatingly effective weapon.

Alexander Litvinenko 'assassinated to stop him exposing Vladimir Putin's links to organised crime' [In English]
Russian President Vladimir Putin described as 'nothing more or less than a common criminal dressed up as a Head of State' by barrister for Litvinenko family....
He said Russia was a “Mafia state” where the Kremlin and Russian organised crime syndicates were “indistinguishable”.
Mr Litvinenko could even show crimes committed or authorises by Mr Putin personally, it was claimed

[I can't really disagree with any of this. ]

[Another story caught my eye in the Telegraph...]

Scorching 'heat dome' over Middle East sees temperatures soar to 165F in Iran
Iran is buckling under the pressure of a massive heatwave passing across the Middle East, with temperatures soaring to nearly 70C.
Scorching heat levels of 50C have already paralysed nearby Iraq, where officials were forced to call a four day public holiday because it was too hot to work.

[Makes 36C - 100F seem cool...]

Russia fears a serious military defeat at the Donbass - Russian politician (Hvilya)
"Every time you need to achieve the start of negotiations, before each Minsk (first and second), Russia is actively used tool of blackmail: intensified aggression, conduct offensive operations, tighten the heavy weapons, all kinds of provocation - both political and military. I think in this case it will be used as blackmail. We are approaching the time for aggressive measures Russia could follow a serious military response. I understand that the Kremlin is very concerned about this situation. Strengthened the army of Ukraine, began to supply arms, and at some point another provocation can result in a serious military defeat. The aggressive actions of Russia are no longer as successful as this would be for the Kremlin ", - he said.

Chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov said that the Crimean Tatars is forced "to experience the new version genocide", implemented by "talented successor of the Soviet Union - Putin's Russia."
You won't hear about this from Shaun Walker, or his sidekick, Oliphant, or that idiot Kitty Logan - who famously called for the Russians to shell the Ukrainians so she could get some nice photos. ]

[An interesting story. Mukacheva area - where that shoot-out took place.

Militants DNR are preparing to create a "dirty bomb", - The Times (RBC-Ukraine)
The Ukrainian Security Service has data intelligence that armed supporters of the so-called "Donetsk People's Republic" began to extract radioactive industrial waste from the bunker in Donetsk for the manufacture of a "dirty bomb." This Saturday, August 1, citing data from the SBU writes British newspaper The Times...
"Dirty bomb" - is one of the options radiological weapons, it is a container with a radioactive isotope of an explosive charge. When the charge of undermining the container isotopes and destroyed by the shock waves of a radioactive substance is sprayed on a sufficiently large area.

[This is slightly worrying.
Putin is mad enough to provide the terrorists with nuclear materials. He gave them a couple of Buk launchers and we know what happened then...]

Australia will seek to create a tribunal for MH17 (
Australia will make efforts to achieve the creation of an international tribunal to punish those responsible for the deaths of Donbas Malaysian passenger plane flying from MH17 from Kuala Lumpur - Beijing. "We are determined to get answers for the families affected. .. We need to send the guilty for what happened a very clear signal that they do not hide, and they will brought to justice, "- said Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop in an interview with Australian television on Saturday, August 1, writes DV.
Commenting on Russia's decision to impose a veto in the UN Security Council a draft resolution on the establishment of the International Tribunal for the MH17, Bishop noted that Moscow's actions only provoked new questions. "If Russia has information about what happened, and can point the finger in the other direction, then why did not she want to be heard before an independent, impartial tribunal enjoys the support of the international community represented by the UN Security Council," - said Julie Bishop.

Russia tightened its immigration rules for Ukrainians (Hvilya)
No problem. I don't see any Ukrainians wanting to go to live in Russia.
In fact, I don't see anybody from anywhere wanting to go and live in Russia.
Exceptions - Shaun Walker, Roland Oliphant, and
North Koreans. The latter used as cheap labour in construction projects.
But life in North Korea is so bad that even Russia is preferred by them to life at home under Kim U. J.
