Ukraine crisis. News in brief. Monday 12th October [Ukrainian sources] Empty I absolutely do not trust Putin and his puppets' promises: we must be prepared for the worst, - Poroshenko

Mon Oct 12, 2015 7:56 am
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko says he does not trust Russia's President Putin.

He said this while addressing the commanders of the Ukrainian army combat units, Censor.NET reports citing 112 Ukraine.

"We keep it in mind that a fighting could resume at any time and maintaining a high morale, high discipline, and high combat readiness is our responsibility for now. I can tell you, I do not trust Putin, I do not trust his puppets, and I do not trust their promises. And we will have to defend Ukraine, if someone would think of testing our strength. Taking efforts to attain our most favorable conditions of political and diplomatic settlement, I can frankly tell you that each moment we have to be prepared for the worst," Poroshenko said.

Ukraine crisis. News in brief. Monday 12th October [Ukrainian sources] Empty Putin’s Wars Already Costing Russia Nearly 100 Billion US Dollars a Year, Illarionov Says

Mon Oct 12, 2015 8:10 am
Illarionov says that his accounting is based on the following assumptions: that the costs of the war must include all increases in military spending in the period of preparing and conducting the war compared to the levels in previous years, that spending for war is greater than spending on the war in Ukraine because Ukraine is only one front in the Kremlin’s war, that the costs of Russian rearmament which began in 2011 must be included, that the base line of military spending is 2.7 percent of GDP, that increased capital outflow during the conflict must be included, and that the average capital outflow against which that is measured is about two percent of GDP from 2000 to 2011.

“Thus,” the Moscow economist says, “the total cost of the current war can be defined as the sum of the direct cost for the state budget … and the costs for the preparation and conduct of military operations for the private sector” as measured against pre-war preparation levels in both cases.”

Using these as the basis for a calculation, Inozemtsev says that Russian government spending on the military rose from 25 billion US dollars a year before the buildup to 61 billion US dollars a year from 2012 through 2015. That alone means that the Ukrainian war has been costing Moscow 36 billion US dollars a year – or 144 billion US dollars for the four years.

The cost of the war for the Russian private sector, he says, is reflected in the increase of capital outflow from the 19 billion US dollars it averaged annually from 2000 to 2011 to 93 billion US dollars a year from 2012 to 2015. That means that there has been an excess in capital outflow over the past four years totaling 232 billion US dollars.

Of course, Illarionov continues, his calculations do not take into account the human losses, the destruction of property and infrastructure, the costs of supporting refugees, as well as “certain other expenses.” And they do not take into account the new additional costs imposed by Putin’s actions in Syria.

The last, he says, “means an inevitable increase in the price of the current war for the Russian state budget, the Russian private sector, all of Russian society as well as for the residents of states in the Middle East. And those costs will all go up significantly and for even more people if Putin’s intervention in Syria leads to an increase in the price of oil......................

The topic header talks about RUSSIA'S EXPENSE. Now we know that, where is the destruction of property and infrastructure in Russia? Don't these people ever fully consider what they are writing/reporting/complaining about?

Ukraine's Minister of Justice Pavel Petrenko reports the blocking of $ 1.4 bn of Ukraine's assets, stolen by the thief Yanukovych.

I do wish news reports would stop referring to these assets as belonging to the Yanukovych band of thieves. That said, I do not believe any of those funds will ever be returned to the state.

Ukraine crisis. News in brief. Monday 12th October [Ukrainian sources] Empty Kyiv Bans Russian Airlines From Flying Into Ukraine

Mon Oct 12, 2015 8:00 pm
The punitive measure announced on October 12 concerns only two carriers -- Siberia's UTair and the tiny Saratov Airlines -- because Kyiv had earlier barred bigger Russian firms in reprisal for Moscow's March 2014 annexation of Crimea.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on September 16 blacklisted Russia's flag carrier Aeroflot and three other state-held companies that offered regular flights to Ukraine.

The State Air Service in Kyiv said the Russian carriers are not allowed to land in Ukraine but would still be permitted to cross its airspace to other destination points.

The only remaining options for air travel between Russia and Ukraine are by flying via the Baltic states or some other country with relatively convenient access to Russia.
