Four US senators have drafted a bill that will not allow President Donald Trump to withdraw the United States from NATO without the prior approval of the upper house of Congress.
As informs Censor.NET and with reference to Interfax-Ukraine, the newspaper The Washington Post writes about it.
The authors of the document were representatives of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Republican Cory Gardner and Democrat Tim Cain, chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Forces, Republican John McCain, and also high-ranking Democrat Jack Reed.
"Unfortunately, President Trump's mismanagement with our closest allies raised doubts about America's commitment to the Transatlantic Alliance and defense values, which is urgently needed to ensure that no president can bring the United States to NATO without the consent of the Senate," the newspaper quoted the statement. According to the bill, in order to leave the United States with NATO, the president will need to get two thirds of the Senate votes.
As the newspaper writes, these "recent efforts" of American senators are aimed at keeping the president from turning the US policy toward Russia."
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that the outcome of the emergency meeting does not consider the possibility of the United States leaving the Alliance.
