U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker arrived in Ukraine's Donbas region to see more about the situation on the ground and to learn about the humanitarian crisis.

"The U.S. special envoy has just arrived in the Donbas," Censor.NET reports citing the Voice of America.

Earlier, Volker had his mandate extended and expanded which gave him not only the authority to deal with the situation in the Donbas but also broad powers in Ukraine.

On May 11, the U.S. diplomat said he was heading to Ukraine's east to see more about the situation on the ground and learn about the humanitarian crisis in the Donbas.

Ukrainian police say a missing family of four has been killed in an antitank mine explosion near the front line in the eastern region of Luhansk, an area the United Nations has called one of the most mine-contaminated places on Earth.

Police officers discovered the bodies of a couple -- both man and woman were aged 57 -- their 38-year-old son, and his common-law wife, also aged 38, near the charred remains of a Chevrolet Niva.

The incident took place in a wooded area near the Siversky Donets River, which marks the front line between territory controlled by government forces and Russia-backed separatists.

The family members were residents of Pischane village in the Stanytsia Luhanska district of Luhansk region and were reported missing by a neighbor on April 7, according to police.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) identified one of the women as Nina Vasylivna, a Pischane community leader who talked with the organization days earlier about raising chickens and growing vegetables in greenhouses to feed residents of the frontline village.

Police believe the family drove over an antitank mine with the car, resulting in a large blast that killed all four.

Photographs published to the website of Ukraine’s National Police show tire tracks beside a swathe of scorched earth several meters wide, the destroyed car, and what appears to be one of the bodies splayed out nearby.

Investigators first classified the incident as a homicide but have since changed it to a terrorist act.

Forensic experts, bomb disposal technicians, and members of an investigative team were still working at the scene on April 11, police said.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has called the area of eastern Ukraine where fighting has entered its fifth year “one of the most mine-contaminated places on Earth.”..............

Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met Yevhen Cholii, president of the Ukrainian World Congress.

Turchynov and Cholii discussed the current situation in the east of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports citing the NSDC press service.

Turchynov said the enemy does not stop shelling in the east of Ukraine even after another cease-fire agreement, which is an evidence of the fact that "Putin is not going to get away from occupied territories, and the Donbas war is a leverage upon Ukraine and Europe for him."

The parties discussed possible solutions to the problem of blocking the military and technical cooperation of Ukraine with partner countries, as well as the issue of the release of Ukrainian political prisoners illegally held by Russia. They also spoke of the aid by the Ukrainian World Congress with informing the partner countries of Ukraine and disproving fake publications about the country by the Russian propaganda.

In his turn, Cholii said the Ukrainian World Congress' priority is aiding the international community in its fight against the hybrid aggression against Ukraine.

He added the Congress will do its best to help implement the bill on the military and technical aid to Ukraine by the U.S., signed by President Trump.

The pressure upon the aggressor should not only continue but also get increased, the parties to the talks said.

"Ukrainians of the entire world should feel themselves one family and jointly work towards our common victory," Turchynov said.
