Former President (1991-1994) Leonid Kravchuk believes that solely using social tools to reintegrate the Crimea in the Ukraine is impossible. He said this in an interview to "5 channel".

"What we hear from the government if we are going to live better, Ukraine - the Crimea he wants to come to us. Well, this is an illusion. Believe me, ever the social question will not solve the problem of the Crimea. Crimea problem - it is a political issue, "- said the former president.

According to Kravchuk, it is necessary to revise approaches to the issue of returning Crimea to Ukraine and to offer new options.

"If we really want to Crimea was with Ukraine, I do not want to say that he returned to Ukraine and was the same as before - it is unreal task. But the policy has to be rebooted ... There are examples in the world: Hong Kong, South Tyrol. When the territory of the Crimea will have a broad autonomy to the state, but a member of the Ukrainian state, "- he said.

The former President noted that Ukraine should exercise wisdom to achieve their goals.

"Take away the power of the Crimea, well, you understand - it is unreal. You have to be wise and to offer things that knows the history of the world "- said Kravchuk.

At the same time, in his opinion, Russia has realized that without the Ukrainian Crimea infrastructure will not be able to exist and it should be used in negotiations. In Russian

The head of Russia's military intelligence agency has died unexpectedly, according to the Kremlin. General Igor Sergun was aged 58. No details of the cause, timing, or circumstance of his death are publically known.

The unexpected death of the head of one of the FSB's (Federal Security Service) biggest rivals raises a number of questions. First is the circumstance of Sergun's death. The Russian government said he had a heart attack in Moscow on Jan. 4, but a Stratfor source heard a report that he died on New Year's Day in Lebanon. If the report that he died in Lebanon is true, it raises questions about what Sergun was doing in a country that is a hotbed for the world's intelligence services and why the Kremlin would cover up his death abroad....................

Russia torpedoed with its pipeline project, the energy policy of the European Union. But there is still time to prevent this. By Anders Aslund

When it comes to energy, there is no shortage in Europe. There is a wide range, and the demand goes back as part of the efficiency programs. From 2004 to 2014, decreased primary energy consumption in the European Union by twelve percent. When gas consumption fell by as much as 21 percent.

But what happens in spite of this unique development? Russia's state-controlled energy giant Gazprom plans to build a new, large gas pipeline to Europe. And companies like the German BASF and Eon, the French Engie, the Austrian OMV and Royal Dutch Shell up with. This pipeline - Nord Stream 2 is intended to be laid through the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany, although the first strand - Nord Stream 1 - is busy only half. This project is completely pointless. And there are a lot of reasons to prevent it.

One of the main projects of the current EU Commission is to create a true energy market, a European Union energy. This plan are five subordinate objectives: energy security, integration of markets, energy efficiency, CO2 reduction and research funding. Nord Stream 2 precludes all these objectives. This page will explain why.

Никогда мы не будем братьями (песня)

"It has been established that the military enlistment office in occupied Yenakiieve is recruiting mercenaries to take part in battles in Syria," the statement reads.

In addition, the agency noted that the measures to provision the grouping of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Syria on Jan. 8 included the flight of IL-76 cargo plane from Mozdok to Hmeymim base in Syria as well as journey of the Vologda-50 supply vessel (without load) of the Russian Black Sea Fleet through the Bosporus towards the Black Sea.

Bellingcat, the expert and journalist team investigating into the downing of MH17 over the Donbas sky in July 2014, recently announced it brought the number of the Russian soldiers possibly involved in this crime down to 20 people. In an exclusive interview with UNIAN, the founder of Bellingcat, Eliot Higgins, has revealed some details of his investigation.

The report holding the names and the photographs of the Russian troops involved in the MH17 crash, according to Bellingcat, was handed over to the Dutch prosecutors two weeks ago.

Earlier in the past year, the Bellingcat team found out that it’s the Russian 53rd air defense Brigade based in Kursk which is actually behind the tragedy with flight MH17.

Are you done with this investigation?

We have spent a year just looking at those members of the 53rd Brigade [anti-aircraft brigade stationed in Kursk]. It’s kind of difficult to know where to look next. We have already gone through every single scrap of social media we can find related to this incident. So I think we’ve pretty much exhausted that. There might be new things that surface, and new information that appears we should all take a look at.

Are you planning to publish this report on your website?

We are planning on January 25 to do a redacted version of the report, which will have most of the same information but we’ll redact the names and the identities of the individuals, but it’s a 123-page report, and there’s plenty of relevant information in there.

We have people doing Russian language articles that we have translated. Now we’re looking for funding to do a Russian version of Bellingcat, because there’s such an interest coming from the Russian language organizations and individuals about open source investigation. We really want to encourage that by having a Russian-language version. I think we’re talking about GBP 50,000-60,000, that’s really just a pay for a translation of the articles. We have a team of volunteers, but I’d rather be able to hire them full time.

How many pictures and videos have you gone through?.....................

This writes the weekly magazine Newsweek in the analysis of the well-known expert on Ukrainian issues Anders Aslund of the recent appointment of Russian politician Boris Gryzlov, Russia's representative in the tripartite contact group to resolve the conflict in the Donbas, reports "Radio Liberty".

"This appointment indicates a significant change in Russia's policy towards Ukraine. Gryzlov is a heavyweight in Putin's inner circle, a permanent member of its Security Council, former Interior Minister, the Speaker of the City Council and the other president with KGBshnogo time in St. Petersburg", - says Aslund .

Gryzlov, the author continues, replaced after Azamat Kulmuhametova who had serious weight, and acted as a representative of Russia in the Tripartite Liaison Group since April last year. Then the destination Kulmuhametova seen as an attempt to reduce the role of Russia and the opportunity to force Ukraine to negotiate with the leaders of Russian-controlled "DNR" and "LC".

"Right now, the Kremlin took over direct control," - says Aslund.
Why anybody would want a photo of a psychotic KGB officer, or a failed electrician on their wall is beyond me.
Such is the "fair" on offer in occupied Donbas. Probably ok for an aged babushka who dreams of the time when she was young and pretty in the good-old "Soviet" days.
