Emails infected with malware were sent to organizations related to the games that will take place in Pyongchang city.
Hackers tried to steal confidential data from groups that will take part in the Winter Olympics that will take place in February this year.
This was reported by McAfee Cybersecurity Company.
The report noted that during the last month emails infected with malware were sent to organizations related to games in the Korean city of Pyongchang.
It is reported that a responsible person could not be established. During past similar attacks, attackers tried to capture passwords and financial data.
"Most of the hit companies are taking part in the preparations for the Olympics. Affected companies that provide infrastructure or provide support, "- said McAfee.
E-mails with malware arrived at emails from Singaporean IP addresses. In the text of such messages, recipients were offered to open programs in test mode. The senders of the letters appeared to be workers of the South Korean National Center for Combating Terrorism, who at that time conducted anti-terrorist training in the region.
Experts warn that this is probably not the latest cyberattack for the Winter Olympics, which will take place in February 2018 in the South Korean city of Pyongchang.
