The San Francisco Federal Court of Appeals upheld the decision of the Wildlife Conservation Service to destroy one species of owl to study its influence on another

The United States Ninth District Court of Appeals admitted that the experiment, which is going to be conducted by the US Fish Resources and Wildlife Service, is not contrary to the federal law that protects migratory birds. According to the court, the law does not prohibit the destruction of one kind for the sake of obtaining significant information for science about another.
Judicial proceedings began after animal societies accused the service of intending to kill one species of owls in order to find out how they would affect another species that was threatened with extinction.
