The Pope condemned false news in contemporary media, comparing them with the serpent of the Paradise Garden.
He told about this in a message to journalists.
Pope Francis noticed that the first fake news is dated from biblical times, when Eve was seduced by an apple from Eden on the basis of disinformation from the snake.
The Pontiff called for a shared commitment to restore "journalism dignity" and journalists.
The Pope condemned manipulation in social networks and other forms of communication in order to achieve certain goals.
"The spread of fake news can contribute to concrete goals, influence on political decisions and satisfaction of economic interests," said Papa.
Earlier, the Pope named the fake news and misinformation "a serious sin."
