In Germany, the Social Democrats supported the formation of a coalition with Merkel's party

Members of the Social Democratic Party of Germany supported by a large majority the formation of a "great coalition" with the bloc of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union.

For a political alliance headed by Merkel, 66,02% were Social Democrats. In total, 363,449 members took part in the voting.

The SPD has more than 463,000 members, all of whom could vote in the mail. Voting started on February 20 and ended March 2.

Thus, in Germany there were no obstacles to the formation of a government coalition.

In early February, the leadership of the CDU / CSU and the SDPU agreed on the text of the coalition agreement, but the leaders of the Social Democrats put forward a condition for the agreement to be signed only if approved by the ordinary members of the party.

According to a coalition agreement, the CDU and the SPD will receive six ministerial portfolios.

At the beginning, the leaders of the two largest German parties - the Social Democratic party under the leadership of Martin Schultz and the Christian Democratic Party of Angela Merkel - agreed to form a coalition four months after the Bundestag elections and failed negotiations with the Greens and Liberals.
