US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the issue of the release of Ukrainian political prisoners, including director Oleg Sentsov.

It is reported by the press service of the US Embassy in Ukraine.

"The Secretary of State expressed concern about the health of Sentsov and called on Russia to release Sentsov and all Ukrainian political prisoners," the statement reads.

Recall that the Presidential Administration said that in order to pardon Sentsov himself must write a request to Putin.

On August 14, Oleg Sentsova was visited by Russian human rights activist Zoya Svetova in the colony . They talked with Oleg in his ward. They did not discuss the issues of exchange, however, according to Svetova, he hopes for it.

Russian human rights activist Zoya Svetova told about the visit of a Ukrainian director, political prisoner of the Kremlin Oleg Sentsov to the colony. Oleg starving on the 93rd day.

She wrote about it in Facebook.

"I saw Oleg. Thanks God, he is alive. Smiling and laughing at me: I do not know, but he quietly speaks, and he had to repeat the same thing several times. And this is not easy for him, he gets tired quickly", - told Svetov.

Sentsov thanks everyone for their support and help.

"When I asked him what to do, Oleg said:" Do what it should. I'm doing this". From myself I will say that now the most important thing is to initiate the process of exchange as soon as possible. And I would very much like to tell mother Oleg, which she has a wonderful son", - the human rights activist writes.

Earlier, Svetov reported that Sentsov called his state "pre-critical".

On August 8, the sister of a political prisoner, Natalia Kaplan, said that Sentsov's condition was heavy: he could not walk , nor did he send letters. Also on August 8 it was reported that Ms Sentsov's request for his release was transferred to the commission for the pardon of the Yamalo-Nenets district.

On August 9, the Presidential Administration of Russia informed that they received a letter from her mother, Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov, about his pardon. President Vladimir Putin said they were not ready to talk about an official reaction to this letter.

The European Union urged Russia to provide the necessary treatment to Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov and release all illegally detained citizens of Ukraine.

This is stated in the statement of the speaker of the European Foreign Policy Service.

"According to reports, Sentsov's health is rapidly deteriorating. We expect that Russia will provide him with the necessary treatment under qualified medical facilities in accordance with the previous judgment of the European Court of Human Rights of July 25, "the statement said.

The document also states that the European Union expects that international standards in the field of human rights will be respected on the Crimean peninsula. In addition, the EU requires immediate release of Ukrainian citizens illegally detained in Russia and the Crimean peninsula.



Sentsa Sentsova said that she had received a letter from Oleg, in which he asked whether someone was interested in his hunger strike, since he was  not given letters.

President of France, Emmanuel Macron, will discuss with President Vladimir Putin the issue of Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov, who is starving 88 days.

This was reported by Reuters, citing its sources.

To hold a telephone conversation Macron plans on Friday, July 10.

The action in support of the Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov, who is imprisoned in Russia, is taking place in Kyiv.

At the action, friends and acquaintances of the director read out the scene of the story Sentsov, reports Censor.NET with reference to Ukrinform.

The director, actor Akhtym Seytablayev, the leader of the "Boombox" group Andriy Khlyvniuk, the actress Rimma Zyubin and others have already joined the action.

Colonel Serhii Sobko, the commander of the 128-th Mountain Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian army, called the football fans not to trust Russia and its attempts to sell itself as a civilized country by holding FIFA World Cup 2018 as it keeps waging war against Ukraine in the Donbas while many Ukrainian political prisoners are being held in Russian jails.

U.S. actress Meryl Streep has voiced support for Ukrainian director Oleh Sentsov, who had been illegally sentenced in Russia.

This was announced by Ukrainian MP Mustafa Nayyem on his Facebook, Censor.NET reports citing Kyiv Post.

The U.S. actress and renowned philanthropist was pictured alongside Nayyem with a "Free Sentsov" sign in a photograph taken during the PEN America Annual Literary Gala on April 25, at which Sentsov was honored with a 2017 PEN/Barbey Freedom to Write award.

Nayyem, who posted the photograph on his Facebook account on April 30, said that the actress was genuinely interested in Sentsov's case, and eager to help.

"After the traditional photo shoot [at PEN - ed.] we ended up next to it other, and I though I could use this to make Ms. Streep another advocate for our Crimean [Sentsov hails from occupied Crimea - ed.]. I was surprised to learn that the actress knew there was a detained director among the nominees, but she didn't know any details.

"During a short dialogue I managed to tell her enough of Oleh Sentsov's story - the materials of his case, his family, Crimea, forcibly granted citizenship, and his two kids who remain on the occupied territory," he wrote.



Nayeem said Streep looked interested and ask "how could we help him." The MP offered to make a picture of her holding the #FreeSentsov poster, and she agreed. Later, when a video of Sentsov's nomination was screened, Streep could help but crying, Nayeem reported.

Oleh Sentsov had been charged by Russia with organizing a terrorist group in occupied Crimea and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
