Spanish Foreign Minister calls referendum on Catalan independence as "bullying and parody" for democracy

Spanish Foreign Minister Alfonso Dusti called the plan for the Cataluña authorities to hold a referendum on self-determination of "mockery of democracy" and "an instrument of choice for dictators."

"What they promote is not democracy, it's a mockery of democracy, it's a parody of democracy," he said.

He said that between this referendum and democracy there can not be a sign of equality, because in reality it is "an instrument for choosing dictators."

Catalan authorities intend to hold a referendum on independence from Spain on October 1. The Constitutional Court of Spain considers this to be unlawful.
