Prosecutors from several US states have already announced that they are launching proceedings against Facebook's management and personally by Mark Zuckerberg.
According to Tsensor.NET , this is one of the founders of Ukraine Crisis Media Center, the founder of Watcher.com.ua Maxim Savanevsky, on this Facebook page. We give him the full text.
" Well, finally, our Marcus (Zuckerberg - Ed.) Coughed up in earnest, and looks like he can get rid of the full program for everything that has happened in the FB over the last few years. Ukraine
Shortly: what happened:
- The New York Times and The Guardian have long been investigating the interference with the US presidential and Brexit elections through Facebook's manipulation of information.
- It is clear that Cambridge Analytica (CA), the company that became famous for being "trumpe-president" thanks to the micro-targeting of messengers to very small audiences, came to the forefront.
- It turned out that CA collected personal information of over 50 million Facebook users without their permission. This is every 4th voter of the United States.
- Collected data from a Russian-American academician, associate professor at the St. Petersburg University, Alexander Kogan, who developed the application "this is your digital life", which collected information about people for academic purposes, but in fact they later got into the CA.
- The application was used by just over 200k users, but they did not just give details about themselves (posts they were nicknames, basic profile data, etc.), but also gave access to the same information of their friends. Friends, of course, did not know about it.
- Oleksandr Kogan, as it turned out, worked in parallel on the CA and the Russian government, from which he formally received grants)
- All this time (and it's about 3 years), Facebook was aware that Kogan was collecting information and that Kogan transmitted SA information, but the FB did nothing for that (formally asked only to delete the data, but they were not deleted, of course) to protect their users from using information about them for political purposes.
- In the UK and US investigations, CA and Facebook representatives said they did not use this data.
- But here on the scene unexpectedly appears one of the key employees of CA (in fact, the architect of their system of micro-marketing and user data collection) - Christopher Whaley, who told the truth. And about how data was collected, and how they were then used in various campaigns, and about Russian Lukoil. Well, the most interesting thing is that the boy found all the documents confirming this.
- In the United States and Britain, it made a tremendous noise and a shock. The prosecutors of several states have already stated that they are opening proceedings against Facebook's management, and personally Zuckerberg, and CA, of course.
- Facebook is formally threatened with a huge fine that could lead to bankruptcy of the company (for each case of unauthorized use of user data - $ 20k, and of such cases, 50 mln.)
So, everything just starts. Stay in touch)".
