Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia "has not received a visa" and canceled a trip to the US

Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matvienko has canceled a trip to the United States, where she was to take part in a meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

RIA Novosti news agency in the Federation Council said that a decision on the US visa for Matvienko is still pending, but the trip will not be able to take place. The US embassy also confirmed that the application for a visa for the speaker of the Federation Council is still pending.

At the same time, the correspondent of "Komsomolskaya Pravda" Dmitry Smirnov said earlier that the US denied a visa to Valentina Matvienko. This information was confirmed by several sources told Interfax in the upper house of the Russian parliament.

At the same time, according to the source, all other members of the delegation received a visa to travel to the United States a month ago.

Valentina Matvienko is included in the sanctions list of the United States, under which it is prohibited from entering the country.
