Talbott states that the underlying reason of the truce is rather an attempt to appease the West, but not to end the war, and the West should keep this in mind when it soon returns to the issue of extending the sanctions.

The head of "Gazprom" Alexei Miller said that the Russian gas monopoly, is ready to negotiate with Ukraine on gas transit through its territory, and after 2019, when the contract ends. He said after talks with European Commission Vice President Maroš Šefčovič.

"We are ready to negotiate with Ukraine on the transit after 2019, but are not ready and will not sign it on the unacceptable conditions", - said Miller.

He noted that the decision of the Stockholm arbitration on this issue will determine the further negotiations on the issue.

Miller explained that it was not an automatic zeroing transit through Ukraine because, for example, in Moldova the gas will still be shipped through Ukrainian territory.
