The European Union is likely next week decide to extend economic sanctions against Russia. It is reported by Reuters, citing a source in the diplomatic circles.
"The decision on sanctions may be taken when the foreign ministers of member countries will meet on 14-15 December, or during the next meeting of EU ambassadors in Brussels on the eve of the summit, or at a meeting in Brussels on December 17-18 during the last meeting of this year, the leaders of the EU Member States, "- said in a statement.
Earlier it was expected that the ambassadors of the EU countries on December 9 will support the extension of economic sanctions against Russia for six months without discussion. But instead of automatic renewal, Italy opted for a discussion of the EU economic sanctions against Russia.
Earlier, Spanish Foreign Minister noted that there is "broad agreement" the EU move towards the continuation of sanctions against Russia for another six months.
