As you read, Putin's not the best of friends with Akhmetov. As for Medvedchuk, I trust him less than Akhmetov, as he's more or less from the same click as Yanukobich.

It would be much better to have someone like Akhmetov than Zakharchenko. Akhmetov I would consider the better of two evils. He would be more focused on making all of Ukraine to work as one, as it would increase his overall business interests, instead of separating eastern Ukraine from the rest. As for Zakharchenko, he'd want to divide Ukraine which wouldn't benefit all of Ukraine. Ukraine would have a better chance at unification with Akhmetov than anyone else, unless for election purposes someone better would appear. With Zakharchenko at the helm, the current issue will continue for many years to come and there will be too many pro-Kremlin politicians in eastern Ukraine put in place by the Kremlin.

Seems Putin's finding himself in a quandary that is starting to force him give-up his future plans.
