Russia has ratcheted up its rhetoric against Ukraine following Vladimir Putin’s accusation this week that Kiev was “resorting to terror” and launching an incursion in Crimea , driving tension between the two neighbours to its highest level in months.

“We would like to warn both Kiev and its international backers that the harm suffered by the Russian side, the death of Russian servicemen, will not remain without consequences,” Russia’s foreign ministry said on Thursday.

The statement repeated allegations on Wednesday by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) that one of their officials and a Russian soldier had been killed in two clashes with Ukrainian forces on the border just inside Crimea — a claim Ukraine has strongly denied.

Both Moscow and Kiev said on Thursday that they were heightening military alert levels along the Russia-Ukraine border . The Russian navy also announced plans for exercises in the Black Sea to practice combating underwater “sabotage attacks”, while the spokesman for Ukraine’s general staff told Reuters that Kiev had started previously planned military exercises in the south of the country..................

Russian authorities report the apprehension of another person charged with "subversion" in occupied Crimea.

Censor.NET reports referring to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Previously, Moscow mentioned the only suspect - Ukrainian Yevhen Panov.

While the updated statement notes that several persons from among the citizens of Ukraine and Russia, involved in the preparation of terrorist acts, have been detained with Yevhen Panov and Andrii R. Zakhtei being among them.

"They are making confessions," the ministry reported.

As previously reported, the situation on the administrative border with the peninsula turned critical early in the morning of Aug. 7.
