Public Council at the President of Armenia expressed support for members of the Maidan in Yerevan, whose members oppose the increase in electricity tariffs. This was reported by a member of the Public Council under the President of Armenia Hovhannes Hovhannisyan.
It is reported that Hovhannisyan called the protests fair, but also stressed that the decision of the Commission on regulation of public services has been made in terms of abuse and inefficient organization of the entire power system.
"We welcome the fact that at the heart of the movement are young people and that it is not of a political character and is a clear manifestation of reasonable and proportionate to counter civil society," - said in a statement the council.
Hovhannisyan also condemned the actions of the police to disperse the protest using water cannons at dawn on June 23 as a result suffered not only demonstrators, but also to work on the spot reporters.
It is reported that according to the Council, the justification for the increase from August 1, electricity rates are unconvincing, and that "the results of information and discussion presented by" Electric Networks of Armenia "documents show unhealthy and uncontrolled situation in the system."
According to the website of the Board, the Public Council of Armenia has to give the public the opportunity to influence the policy pursued by the authorities, and the authorities - be guided in their actions the demands of society.
