Cuban leader Raul Castro will leave his post on April 19, 2018. Castro's resignation will be held on the basis of elections to the State Council.
This was reported by El Nuevo Herald.
The Cuban parliament December 21 decided to postpone the elections to the State Council for two months - instead of scheduled for February 24, they will be held on April 19.
In the Cuban political system, the post of head of state consists of two combined posts - the chairman of the State Council and the head of the Council of Ministers. The State Council consists of 31 members elected by the parliament and exercising legislative powers during a break between parliamentary sessions.
According to Reuters, the transfer is due to the need to restore Cuba after the hurricane Irma, which covered the country in September. The island's economic losses totaled at least $ 2.2 billion.
Earlier, it was reported that the UN would allocate $ 5.7 million to help Cuba after the Irma hurricane.
