At the age of 80, astronaut Bruce McKandless II died, who made the first outbreak of history without an attached harness.

NASA reports.

"Our thoughts and prayers with the family of Bruce. It will forever be remembered for the legendary flight photograph on a manned maneuvering module (MMU)", - the message says.

During his first flight in 1984, he tested the NASA-designed manned maneuvering module MMU, which allows astronauts to move in space without attaching to the ship. The duration of the free flight of McCandless without insurance was about six hours. In this case, the astronaut was able to depart from the ship for a distance of more than 90 meters. Later NASA banned the use of the module for security reasons.
