The Israeli Parliament has banned stores from working on Saturday
Israeli parliament approved in the final reading a bill on the prohibition of shops on Saturday
According to this law, the interior minister was empowered not to approve the decision of local authorities on the work of shops on weekends, reports Newsru.co.il.
The second and third reading of the bill lasted 12 hours and took all night. The law was passed by a majority in one deputy's vote - 58 deputies voted "for". The law applies to decisions taken by shops, not including restaurants, cafes, tea shops, pubs, and any other establishments where food and drinks are served for on-site consumption and also not including places of public leisure (theaters, cinemas, concert halls, discos, etc).
During the second reading, an amendment was adopted that excludes shops from the law enforcement stations at gas stations.
The bill was promoted by ultra-orthodox parties. During the week preceding the vote, several municipalities adopted bills to open stores on Saturday.
