Merkel first spoke about the formation of a coalition in the Bundestag

German Chancellor Angela Merkel confirmed the information on a breakthrough in coalition talks between the CDU / CSU and the SDPU.

At a joint press conference with the leaders of the CSU Horst Zeicher and the SPD, Martin Schultz, Merkel expressed his hope for the formation of a successful government. The participants of the event confirmed the information on the success of negotiations on the creation of a coalition.

"I believe we have achieved outstanding results," Schultz said.

It is noted that the last round of negotiations on the coalition lasted more than a day and ended on the morning of January 12. The immediate coalition talks will begin only after the SDPU congress on January 21.

According to a copy of the text of a coalition document owned by the German media, the parties agreed to limit the number of refugees arriving in the country to 200,000 per year. They also decided to limit one thousand people a month to those who may be reunited with their family, whose representatives have been granted asylum in Germany.

As a priority, closer cooperation with France has been identified to strengthen the euro area. Also, an agreement was reached on the creation of a "special budget fund" for economic stabilization of the euro area, support for "social convergence" and structural reforms. One of the arrangements was the refusal to raise taxes.
