The United States began withdrawal of troops from Iraq

US troops began to withdraw from Iraq after Baghdad's declaration of victory over the "Islamic state" last year.

This is reported by the Associated Press with reference to coalition representatives.

Two Iraqi officials confirmed that the US-led coalition and government of Iraq reached an agreement on the withdrawal of troops for the first time since the start of the war against the "Islamic State."

The agency notes that 60% of US troops will be withdrawn from Iraq. Thus, out of nearly 8,900 US troops (as of September 2017), there will be 4,000 soldiers in the country, which will continue training Iraqi troops.

The militants of the "Islamic State" invaded Iraq in 2014, they occupied a third of the country's territory, including the large cities of Mosul and Takrir.

In 2016, the liberation of captured territories began. In December 2017, the Iraqi prime minister announced the end of the war with the "Islamic State."
