A storm in the state of Virginia broke the Canadian train, which was planted by George Washington 227 years ago.
This is reported on the Facebook page of the Mount Vernon estate, where the first US president lived.
The coniferous tree was presented to Washington by the governor of New York in 1791, and he planted fir on his plantation, which now has the status of a historical monument.
The estate has a two-storey wooden house with Washington's personal belongings. The first president and his wife are buried near the estate.
