Police in the eastern state of Orissa in India are looking for a monkey suspected of kidnapping a baby whose body was subsequently found in a well.

The monkey kidnapped a kid in the house, in the eyes of his mother on March 31. But the woman did not manage to save her son.

The body of the infant was found in a well near the house, a day after the abduction. Police officers say that this is "the first such incident" when the actions of the monkey led to the death of a person.

At the same time, in the east of India, monkeys often damage the property of the inhabitants.

"We hope to catch the animal for a week," said a local police officer at the BBC.

The police have attracted local monkeys seeking queens, whose members are understood to be fishing monkeys.

The doctor, having examined the baby's body, said that there were no serious injuries. Most likely, it died as a result of drowning.
