On April 18, the US Senate introduced amendments to the regulations that would allow members of the upper house of Congress to take children under the age of one in the polling room during voting, and to breastfeed when discussing bills.
This was reported by the CNN channel.
The resolution was adopted unanimously by the Democratic senator-senator from Illinois Tammy Dacourt, who was unable to attend the meeting.
On April 9 she became the first acting senator in the United States to give birth to a child. According to the rules, children could not be left with assistants during the voting, entering them into the hall was prohibited.
On his website, Dacourt thanked his colleagues from both parties and said that now motherhood would not prevent her from performing her duties. In the next three months, she will be on maternity leave, but will be able to appear in the Senate during the vote of important bills.
The 50-year-old Dakuort previously served as a military pilot. In 2004, during the war in Iraq, her helicopter fell and she lost both legs.
In 2017, she became the first person with disabilities elected to the Senate.
