The Vatican court sentenced a former diplomat who worked at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, 5 years imprisonment for the storage and distribution of child pornography. It is said that this is the first such verdict inside the Vatican.

Monsignor Carlo Alberto Capella was arrested in April 2018 in the Vatican.

The accused admitted that he distributed and preserved child pornography during, according to him, the period of "fragility" and the crisis.

As he said, he was called on to transfer to the Vatican Embassy in Washington DC.

The head of the Tribunal, Giuseppe Dalla Torre, read the verdict on June 23 after a two-day trial, which ended with the fact that the accused appealed to the court to mitigate the sentence.

According to him, this episode was only a "blow to the road" of the priestly vocation, which he really loved.

At the same time, the judge stated that the Capella continued to preserve child porn even after it was withdrawn by the Vatican in August 2017.

The prosecutors requested the Vatican court for an accused person for more than 5 years.

It is noted that the smartphone ex-diplomat found about 40 photos, movies with child pornography.

Recall that the Vatican police arrested Monsignor Carlo Alberto Capel in April of this year after the Chief Justice of the Holy See issued a warrant.
