The United States suspected Microsoft of corrupt operations in Hungary - The Wall Street Journal

The US Department of Justice and the United States Stock Market Commission conduct an investigation into corruption offenses by Microsoft officials while selling Microsoft Office programs to Hungarian authorities.

According to the publication, Microsoft sold its products to Hungarian government agencies through intermediaries, which received significant discounts. Intermediaries themselves resold the software to the Hungarian authorities at a market price. At the same time, the difference in the cost was received by officials as bribes and "kickbacks".

Microsoft assured that they had conducted an internal investigation into their Hungarian office, which resulted in the release of four employees and terminated agreements with some intermediaries.

Earlier, Microsoft said that it prevented hackers allegedly affiliated with the Russian government from attacking US electoral infrastructure.
