Internet users may experience network problems after October 11th due to the update of cryptographic keys that serve as a protection for the domain name system (DNS) system.

This is with reference to the press service of the Corporation for Domain Name Management and IP Addresses (ICANN) reports " Obozrevatel".

This change of keys will be the first in the history of the Internet. The keys were introduced in 2010 on the initiative of ICANN. They provide protection in the process of resolving domain names, that is, transforming the name of the Internet resource into a numeric IP address.

Before the defensive mechanism, fraudsters could intercept requests from the user's computer and quietly replace the destination IP addresses with incorrect ones. Thus, the user, without knowing himself, connected to the server of fraudsters.

As experts note, replacement of keys is not connected with the fact that they were compromised or broken, but for the purpose of prevention. The replacement procedure was scheduled a few years ago, but was postponed due to the low availability of providers. Now, according to experts, they are better prepared, but failures in the work of servers, especially small operators, may still occur.
