President of the United States Donald Trump intends to demand from the developed countries payment for military support from Washington
Writes DW.com.
"When it comes to the rich countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Japan, and South Korea, what to finance their armies," asked Trump, speaking to the public in West Virginia.
"They will pay us. The problem is that nobody ever asked about them," added Trump.
In the case of South Korea, the American leader said that the United States is funding "about 60 percent of their army."
According to Trump, American generals told him that the White House pays for these countries because "they are our allies." However, senior military officials do not understand finances, the US president said, describing the situation as "a disgusting trade agreement and a disgusting military agreement."
Earlier, Trump repeatedly spoke in favor of the fact that US allies in NATO, in particular Germany, should seriously increase their military spending.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reminded that in 2014, the Alliance agreed to increase its defense spending to 2 percent over a 10-year period.
